The other day, I read with great interest that Merck is suspending their lobbying efforts to persuade state legislatures to use their company’s vaccine against cervical cancer (hpv) as a requirement for school attendance. It seems that a lot of people were upset about this whole affair and I can understand why.
Going to school you would think that the only thing you should be immunized against should be easily transmitable diseases not one that is spread through sexual contact. Although it’s controversial, it stands to reason the ethics behind this are questionable because it does deal with the forbidden “S” word…. SEX and most 11-12 year old girls shouldn’t be having any sex right?
But I do wonder to myself, how many of those people who are against Merck Gardasil will immunize their children against HPV if it ISN’T required?
Please let me know your thoughts on this. Will you vaccinate your daughter against cervical cancer and Human Paillomavirus even if it isn’t required for you to do so? Why or why not?
It looks to be an intersting question and one that I hope will allow you to be the judge on whats best for your children. At any rate, the more information people have about Human papillomavirus, HPV and Gardasil the more power they will have to make the right choices for themselves.
