Merck Gardasil, Has your child been vaccinated? Tell us your story!

Update: We just added a forum to this site. Please be sure to post your thoughts and experiences there as well!

We just read a very interesting comment from one of our readers in another post where she describes her daughter had become numb and fainted after being administered an injection of Merck’s Gardasil, the vaccine for HPV - Human Papillomavirus which is being mandated in some states. While we’re not sure if this is a common reaction to the vaccine or maybe just a phobia about getting “shots”, it was concerning enough to our reader to state she would not allow her daughter any follow-up treatments.

Documentation about the side effects of Gardisil are available online. I’ll do some research soon and report what I find.

Have any of your children been vaccinated with Gardisil yet? If so, tell us their reaction to the vaccine and share your experiences with us. We’d like to know how many of you discussed the vaccination with your children and how you explained the vaccine to them. We’d also like to know if you’ve decided NOT to get the vaccination for your child and what the reasons were for not getting it.

Her fainting was probably a result of her apprehension with shots. The side effects are the same as with any shot. I went to a presentation by Merck this past weekend and the data they have is very convincing. They recommended having kids lay down for the shot. This would deal with any fainting or dizzy problems kids might have. Their data showed very few differences in side effects between the vaccine group and the placebo group. The most common side effect is a sore arm.

this is not about apprehension. my daughter went out cold within two seconds of receiving her third gardasil shot and has never had a problem with shots before. there needs to be more research and disclosure about why this is happening.

I just had my 3rd shot yesterday and i feel AWEFUL!!! My obgyn talked me into recieving the shots and now after having done my own research im really wishing i had reconsidered. I, like other women have many vaccines and never have had such an adverse reaction as i have with this one. Upon recieving my last injection, the nurse laughed and said, “It feels like somone is putting a ciggarette out on your arm.” Surely not a laughing matter when it comes to the pain. Extreme pain, nausea, fever, chills, are just a few of the side affects. If you decide to go on with the vaccine, good luck, and just be prepared for what’s to come.

My daughter received her second injection on December 22, 2008. On December 31, 2008 she broke out in horrific hives on her inner thighs and feet. Went to the emergency room and they treated unsuccessfully with Benedryl. Only steriods worked. By Friday she was in terrible pain. She armpits, chest, neck, jaw and lips. After three days she is still in pain. I’m sure this is a reaction from Gardasil. We are seeing our Dr. this afternoon.

What other side affects did you have? I am experiencing the same thing and have been sick for almost 2 months now ever since the shot. Did yours ever go away?

The reason the numbers are close between the ‘placebo’ and the vaccine group in their clinical trials is because they used the reactive aluminum and other toxic ingredients in the placebo instead of a saline solution! This kept the numbers close between the reactions from the ‘placebo’ and the vaccine!
You really should do some research into the over 15,000 reported adverse events from girls that have been jabbed with Gardasil. My daughter is one of them that has been sick since her 2nd Gardasil shot.
The reported events is estimated at 1 to 10% of the true numbers!
Do your research! Merck is killing our daughters with this Gardasil! And there is not one document that proves that Gardasil prevents cervical cancer! Not one!!!
Also, they only ‘tested’ this vaccine for 5 years. The average person that contracts HPV will most likely fight off the infection and be ok. IF this person were to develop cervical cancer, it would more than likely be when she reached the approximate age of 40.
How could Merck come to the conclusion that after a 5 year study, Gardasil prevents cervical cancer?

IF a girl/woman gets the Gardasil vaccine AFTER she’s been exposed to the HPV virus, she just increased her chances of developing cervical cancer by 44.6%!

I dont care WHAT Merck’s presentation showed. I dont care HOW convincing they were. The studies, documents and adverse reports are MORE CONVINCING!

DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!!!!

I just received my 2nd Gardasil shot. And 4 hours later icing my arm because it hurts. First 5 minutes after the shot hurts the most. In fact, this is probably the second most painful shot I have ever gotten (first was theophilin shot into the butt I got as an 8 year old that disabled my leg for the next two hours).
1h before the shot I took 2 Exedrin tablets, then right before the shot I asked the nurse for an ice pack. After the shot I sat for 10 min in the waiting room icing my arm after that pain subsided enough for me to drive. Next time I go in (yes, I’m finishing my series because I have two of my parents’ friend go through cervical cancer) I will ice my arm for 20min PRIOR to the shot. And I will clench my teeth and endure it. After all it’s better than getting cancer.

Pain for 3 days total is better than cervical cancer. If you are younger than 24, or/and haven’t had multiple sexual partners, get vaccinated; otherwise make sure to vaccinate your daughters. They will than you for making them do it in years to come. And take them out for ice cream or something to make them feel better afterward.

the pain isn’t the problem with gardasil. its the long term side effects. i was a straight a student, popular and playing national sport. last year i missed over a half year of school. i strongly reccommend not risking it. its non properly trialed and hasn’t been around long enough to prove it even help with cancer. everything kills cancer in a petri dish, in a body its different.

Today I recieved my 2nd Gardasil shot. I am 18 years old. After the injection, I sat around for 10 minutes to make sure no breakout occured on my arm. Once the nurse told me I could leave, I walked to make my next appointment for the shot, and as the receptionist was talking to me my vision became darker and darker and I could not hear anything. I ended up fainting and bumping my head on the floor pretty hard, as well as getting a nice big scratch on my arm. I woke up and there were nurses all around me giving me juice and crackers. Has anybody else heard of situations like this with the vaccine? I was only passed out for a few seconds, but still very very scary.

I just got my Gardasil shot today, and I NEVER have problems with shots. I have never passed out because of shots or seeing blood, or anything like that. This time, however, I got the Gardasil shot and hit the floor HARD. I felt fine after the shot for about a minute, and even told the nurse “that wasn’t so bad!” Then I got paint in my arm, and my muscles tightened. Before I knew it, I was waking up to doctor’s calling my name. Not sure what happened!

I am 25, and I have taken all 3 shots and I regret taken them. The first 2 shots were completely fine (no side effects only slight pain that went away. But the last shot was the most painful ever. This shot left my arm, which hurts to type now, in pain but I have hope that this will pass.

I wish I could take back that 3rd shot, but its not possible. Now the only thing to do is deal with my bad decision.

I also wish there would be a way to let everyone know about these serious side effects, yet I still see the vaccine commercial on TV.

IS THERE SOMETHING WE CAN ALL DO AND MAKE PEOPLE AWARE OF THIS?
I believe the side effects, short term and unknown long term, definitely DO NOT out weigh the probability of obtaining cervical cancer and dying from it.

I had my 3rd shot 2weeks ago and I wish I had never gotten them.

PLEASE I URGE EVERYONE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS WEB SITE: http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/janak/080406

My 16 year old daughter received her second Gardasil shot today. Immediatley after the injection (which she said hurt REALLY bad) she said her vision got darker and darker, she couldn’t hear anything, she was extremely dizzy and she thought she was going to faint. I got her some Sprite and had her sit still for about 10 minutes. She felt better but was still extremely pale. She is back to normal but this was very scary. I’m not sure if she should go for the 3rd shot! My 13 year old daughter received the shot at the same time but didn’t experience any symptoms except that the shot was very painful.

I’ve always been good with shots - I actually don’t mind watching them go into my arm or seeing my blood drawn or anything. In fact, when I got my shots for Kindgarden I didn’t cry, and the nurse said I was the first kid that age she’d ever had that didn’t cry. My first shot of Gardasil was the only shot I’ve ever received that actually made me cry. It was injected in a closet supply room (where they keep the vaccines. Weird, I know). As I was talking to my doctor later I felt as if I was going to faint. I didn’t actually faint, but I wobbled around for about five minutes. It was really scary, and I think it disproves the “people only faint because they’re apprehensive about shots” theory. Sure, I’d rather be getting a painful shot than cervical cancer or genital warts, but the Gardasil shot is not fun.

My daughter hates shots! She got her second shot on Thursdays and it took 3 of us to hold her down for it. Today she showed me a big lump right below the shot site and it is warm and reddish. I placed some ice on it and will be watching for tomorrow. If it persists I will have to call the doctor. For the first shot she was much better but a several days later she developed some unexplained high fevers. I’m not sure if they were caused by the shot or not. The doctor could not find anything wrong with her other than the high fevers. She was fine afterwards.

I am 21 and I got my first Gardasil shot yesterday. I wish it had been made years ago so that I could have gotten it before I became sexually active. It was definitely the most painful shot I have ever had. The needle prick was nothing, but when she injected the vaccine I lost my breath. It felt like someone punched me really hard in the stomach and in the arm at the same time. I felt nauseated so the nurses had me lay down with my feet in the air and fanned my face. They told me to massage the area on my arm where they gave me the shot for the next couple days to prevent soreness and distribute the medicine. It isn’t so sore now, but my arm has felt warm ever since I got the shot.

I have received the first two doses of the gardasil vaccine so far and have not had good experiences. On the first one I felt fine, except for the horrible pain of the injection. When I got up to make my second appointment with the nurse I started to feel very dizzy and hot, my ears started ringing and I had to lay back in the room for fifteen minutes until I could catch my breath again. The second shot I was a little nervous for so I laid down while receiving the vaccine and laid down for a few minutes after to prevent the dizziness, the shot still hurt just as bad, and I have had a knot underneath my skin from the injection from the past two days. I know that the vaccine is a lot better than getting cervical cancer but it hurts and is a little scary.

I would just like to start off by saying that being a nurse, I have recieved a lot of shots. I have a high tolerance for pain and I usually watch when a needle injects me. Yesterday I recieved the first of the three gardasil shots. I have NEVER felt pain like the pain I felt with this shot. After I got up to go make my next appointment, I began to feel dizzy, noticed my vision getting darker, my ears ringing and that I was extremely hot. Next thing I knew I woke up on the floor with the nurse’s over me. It was the most frightening moment of my life. I will NOT be getting the rest of these shots.

All of you that are worried about HPV or genital warts or whatever, why not just use condoms? This seems to be the most common sense solution I can think of here. HPV is a std and the most common way to prevent std’s is having protected sex and preferrably with the same partner. Having this HPV “Vaccine” shot first off doesn’t give you carte blanche to sleep with anyone you please unprotected anyway because of other STDs like Aids or the like, so what exactly is the purpose of being vaccinated even though you will still use condoms?
More-over if you are of age or 21 or older, and you have already have had unprotected sex with more than a few partners you are more than likely already infected with HPV and a vaccine can not help that fact, vaccines are a preventive measure, and if you already have it, it will not cure it. Cures are cures, and vaccines are vaccines, be realistic. If you have had more than two partners and have been so foolish as not to use a condom then you are very likely to have HPV already, and after already being infected with HPV getting a shot of gardasil is more likely to put you in more danger of contracting cancer.
Now let’s say okay this is not for you but for your daughter, do you think gardasil is an excuse to become less of a good parent? Meaning, you think this is a good idea “just in case” she has unprotected sex at some time, I would say if this describes your way of thinking then you have doubts about your parenting ability. Be a good parent, raise your child to know that unprotected sex is wrong, and even dangerous. Dont use scare tactics that they will resent you for give them good information so they can make sound decisions.
My daughter is not receiving a gardasil shot not because of the stories posted here but because of the facts. Gardasil “may” (and let me stress the world may here) only protect you from 4 types, leaving many many other ways for your daughter to contract HPV and cervical cancer, so even if they have unprotected sex there is a good chance they will still contract HPV and even the types that gardasil “may” protect them against. On top of that, there have been cases of reactions caused by this so called vaccine that caused deaths in those who were vaccinated. There are not any replacements for good parenting and the pros do not outweigh the cons in the case of this vaccine. This particular vaccine may cause a reaction resulting in death, may actually make you more at risk for cancer, and the potential pro is that it “may” prevent you from contracting 4 types of HPV (it is not guaranteed that it will, and there still is a chance of getting these same types it is supposed to prevent, ask your doctor if you dont believe me).
There is no replacement for condoms and good decision making, or good parenting, if that is why you want to shoot your daughter up with this vaccine then perhaps you should not be a parent in the first place?

T.L.- I think it has been pretty well documented by now that HPV isn’t spread just through sexual penetraion, it is spread through sexual contact. Literally, an skin-to-skin contact can spread it. So while using condoms is always great advice, it still doesn’t provide adequate protection from HPV.

I am a nineteen year old college student. I am a well educated individual with strong morals and have never had sex of any sort or sexual contact. I chose to get the vaccine because should I happen to come upon the virus, I’d rather not get it. I made it as my own decision, made the appointment myself, and specifically asked for it. Does that make me sexually reckless? Absolutely not. It makes me responsible and conscious of my health. If I can prevent getting a form of deadly cancer, you can be sure as Hell that I’ll take that opportunity. HPV is not spread only by sexual contact. It can be transfered my merely touching someone under favorable circumstances. I don’t plan on becoming sexually active in the near future. I do not plan on becoming sexually active without condoms ever. So please buzz off and refrain from throwing hasty generalizations over everyone.

Godspeed.

I agree with Laurie. If you have sex, you can potentially catch any STD whether you use protection or not. I think it’s great that they have a vaccine against HPV, because the more you can do to protect yourself the better. This disease is more prevalent in this country than a lot of the other STDs out there. As Laurie was saying, HPV can be spread through skin contact, so using a condom won’t necessarily protect you. Many people who have it also are asymptomatic, don’t know that they have it and unwittingly spread it to other people. I think I saw a statistic somewhere that said about half of sexually active Americans will get HPV at some point in their lives, so Gardasil seems like a very useful vaccine to have.

It’s true that even if you get the vaccine, there is no absolute guarantee that you won’t ever get HPV, but that’s true about all vaccines. The key is that it minimizes the risk. And any vaccine can potentially cause a bad reaction, so that’s nothing new.

On a different note, I don’t think giving your daughter the HPV vaccine will encourage her to go out and have unprotected sex. It’s just a precaution. This vaccine doesn’t protect against all diseases, anyway; it only protects against one. There are still other diseases she could get from having unprotected sex, so that should be enough to make her think twice about it. In the end, though, whether she has sex or not is entirely her choice, and if you don’t give her the shot then she will just be at increased risk of disease. With that in mind, I see absolutely no reason to pass judgments on parents who choose to give their daughters the HPV vaccine.

In short, even though it’s a very new development and needs to be tested more for its long-term effects, I think the vaccine is a great development. I will say, however, that I got my first Gardasil shot today and it hurt like a mother. I felt fine after a couple of minutes, but I have never had a more painful shot than that. Be warned, ladies.

I agree with Amber completely. Don’t judge other parents for wanting healthy children. I’m 17 and I asked my mother for the shot because I want to be protected.

And I don’t think getting the shot lets girls think it’s ok to start being sexually active. Most of us are old enough to understand that the shot it for protective measures and benefits us in the future. And anyways, if girls my age want to start becoming sexually active, it’s not a shot that’s going to start us…it’s hormones. So don’t bag on other parents. Maybe you’re the one who shouldn’t be a parent for not wanting to protect your daughter?

I recieved my first gardisil vaccine on Friday. On Sunday (2 days later), I developed hives on the right side of my face (It looks like the worst case of acne ever!), into my ear and down my neck and now its spreading into the left part of my face and have an enlarged lymph gland. I also developed a headache. I went to the emergency room to have it looked at. They gave me Doxycylene to treat it and told me that if it dosent clear up in 3 days to go to the clinic. I will never get the vaccine again and will be stopping the series. To make it even worse, I was not given a info sheet about it prior to getting the vacinne by my dr. WOW! The same thing happened to me. I got my 3rd shot 4 days ago. The first 2 were fine. But a 2 days after my third shot, I noticed a rash on the right side of my face only.. it is almost inflammatory and looks like horrible acne and is so embarrasing.and not to sound shallow, but I have probably had 2 or 3 pimples in my entire life ( i am 25 years old)so I know i am not breaking out. The rash seems to be getting worse and is now spreading down my neck. I also got a severe sharp pain in the right side of my neck the day after the third shot. It lasted for two days and was agonizing. To make things worse, i am in med school and i am ashamed of myself, as a future doctor for getting this vaccine.

SO my question is… did the doxycycline work?? please tell me the rash eventually went away.

I didn’t lay down for the shot or stay seated after the shot and i was fine. But today i feel a little dizzy and out of it, like im coming down with a cold or something. I also took an advil a couple of hours before, so that probably helped. Also, if you’ve ever had the meningococcal vaccine (which gave me a sore arm for a week), gardasil is not nearly as bad.

Well this is interesting because I actually got the shot today (the first one) and came REALLY CLOSE to fainting in the OBGYN office about three or four minutes after is absorbed in my body. I have had this happen before with shots, but not since I was a little kid. It’s hard to differentiate between sensitivity to a forgeign object in my body causing this reaction or my phobia of shots…but I must say that I wasn’t at all scared and didn’t think it hurt at all. I received my first Gardasil shot yesterday. The pain was terrible, even if only for a few seconds. In addition, the nurse did not shake the vial before injecting the vaccine, although it was written to do so in capital letters on the package! I almost fainted after the shot and had to sit for 15 min to feel better. It’s been 24 hours but I’m still feeling dizzy from time to time and am having small cramps in the heart region. And the worst part is that my doctor couldn’t care less. Does anyone know if not having the 2 other doses can have any side effect?

I’m 33 & was happy that my doctor was willing & able to give me the injection despite being over 29. Both of my grandmothers died form cancer in their mid thirties. The injection felt similar to a B vitamin shot. Three days after the shot, my arm is a little red & there is a lump, which is warm & painful to touch, but not intollerable. A tylenol makes the pain disappear. Also because of my age my insurance would not pay for the series of shots. It’s a lot of money for me but it’s also a huge value if it is possible to protect me from Cancer. I wish I knew my grandmothers & maybe if they were able to get this vaccine, I would have had the chance to meet them.

I have only received one out of the three shots. I am only two weeks away from getting the second. I didn’t realize it until a day ago but a have a large lump in my arm close to where the shot was given to me. The only thing I can think of that it would be is this shot. Now I am very worried, the nurse also told me everyone has told her the 2nd shot hurts the worst. I have had piercings and tattoos but this really bothers me to think about. The first one burned alot, I don’t look forward to it. My lump also feels a bit warm, but it could just be because I keep feeling it to see if it’s gone. Anyone else have a bump 1 1/2 months later?

I just realised it is about four weeks since mine and I definitely have quite a large lump. You can’t really see it to look at my arm, but when I feel it, it is most certainly there, and kind of warm.

That was my first shot only, thinking about what the second one will be like now….

Sorry I’ve posted this twice because it relates to 2 of the comments here… I’m 23 from Australia and have had all 3 shots. I didn’t have any side effects other than muscle soreness for a few days after but 4 weeks after the 3rd shot I developed a small lump at the injection site that got more painful as I touched it or exercised the muscle. I went back to my doctor and he said he had seen similar reactions to vaccines but only immediately after, not 4 weeks later. He told me to put some Voltaren Gel on it and if it didn’t go away in a week to go back. It’s been 3 weeks and I’ve just been to see him again. He thinks it may be a ganglion and he’s sending me for an ultrasound of the shoulder to see what layer the lump is in, and then he’ll decide whether we should just leave it or get it surgically removed. The lump doesn’t bother me aesthetically because you can’t see it, but you can definitely feel it. I’ll make sure I post after I find out what it is next week.

Hi, me again. Had an ultrasound of the injection site yesterday. Results are that “the appearance favours a small lymph node although is a very unusual site” so back to square one… no one knows what it is. It’s impossible for a lymph node to move to the outside of my arm over my deltoid but the lump (about pea sized) seems to have the same appearance as a lymph node. Doctor said to wait a few months if I can handle the pain (only really hurts with exercise) and see if it goes away otherwise if not, ask a surgeons opinion. Anyone else know what their lump was?

I am 29 old cervical cancer survivor, I came on this website to check out the vaccination for my daughter (she is 9 and i wasnt sure how old she will be when she has to have it).

I honestly advise you to have it forget the pain it is nothing like the emptional and physical pain of a hysterectomy at 27yrs, alongside all the other treatments.

Go for it - forget the dizziness and short term symptoms, sometimes we have to go through these things to protect ourselves and our children.

The fact is 90% of HPV infections clear on their own. This vaccination is unproven to how long immunity lasts, may be no more than 5 yrs at best. HPV is not proven to cause cervical cancer, only that HPV sometimes resides in precancerous cervical lesions. The theory that any virus causes cancer is also unproven and questioned by several medical reseachers. some Gardasil ingrediants, polysorbate 80, (said to disperse the ingrediants in the vaccine more uninformly), causes infertily in mice, and no research on that by Merck was done. The vaccine also contains histidine, also known to cause severe allergic reacions, additionally the vaccine contains sodium borate, similar to Borax and has been used as roach killer, tell me whay that is in the vaccine? Do the homework, stop first, research this on the net extensively like I have for weeks. The benfits do no outweigh the risks.

Of course the comments here are primarily negative, but that disporportion shouldn’t be a factor in your decision making. People with bad experiences go researching, talking and looking for information in much larger numbers. All the girls and women with no problems went on their merry ways without giving the whole thing another thought.

I had my second shot today. They both are the most painful shots I have had, but only slightly more painful than a Hep B shot. I have had worse cramps during my period. All I had was some soreness in my arm, normal for me after vaccinations. I got up right after the shot and walked out of the office, then walked around a thrift store for about 15 mins. No Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting.

Please do not be scared of getting the vaccine! Like Izzy said it is completely worth it. I already shared my story that to me it didn’t hurt that bad and I am completely terrified of needles. The shot is worth it. I don’t want to criticize the medical system in the US, because I received mine in my home country (where I’ve noticed they are better at using needles) but maybe try going to a higher up institution and not just the clinic down the street? Putting a needle isn’t easy and if the nurse isn’t good at it it will hurt more. Also take some advil or tylenol before going.

I did not have ANY side effects besides the sore arm. But of course, these type of things vary from person to person. So people don’t be scared because someone felt dizzy after the vaccine. It’s a million times worth than the possibility of getting cancer.

I am 24 years old and got my 2nd shot today. I am a military dependent and since the shot is free, I figured why not?

The shot is painful, not the prick, but the actual liquid they inject into you feels what I can imagine acid would feel like. The sergent told me that it’s because the liquid is kept at 40 degrees, so it’s the cold that hurts. He said, “it’s like brain freeze, but in your arm”

The first shot that I got, my arm just felt sore for a day. Today my arm doesn’t feel sore at all. I never felt dizzy or sick. I will get my last shot in 4 months. I recommend it to everyone.

I got the first shot about a month ago. I had severe muscle pain and weakness, not even able to use my left hand to pull up my pants or the covers on my bed. After about a week the pain improved slightly, but here I am, a month later, still in pain every time I lift my arm. There is a knot where the injection was made but its this ongoing pain that has really made me concerned. I keep waiting thinking it will go away but its too long now, I intend to call my doctor, maybe there was an error made when injecting, and I can’t find one piece of information on side effects lasting longer than a week. I am very upset.

My daughter is 23 got the 2nd shot on 8/8/07 and has had a terrible reaction to the shot. One week after the shot all of her lymph nodes were swollen. She could not open her mouth, her right arm was retracted.
We went to the hospital 3 days in a row before any one would agree that she experienced an adverse reaction to the shot. She has tingling in her right fingers off and on. She has to take Valium and Percocetts so she can open her mouth and function. Her voice is very high pitched when she first wakes up. This has been happening for 2 weeks. We are going to an ENT, rhumatologist and a nueruologist in the next month.
It’s been 2.5 months and she is no better.

I am 24 and had the last shot shot over a month ago. My arm is still hurting every time I lift it. I went to the doctor, who referred me to an orthopedic specialist. They said my shoulder was inflamed, wanted to inject it with cortisone (I said no), and said there is definitely something wrong with the nerves leading to my fourth and fifth fingers. They were reluctant to say it was from the shot. I am going for to see another specialist next week.

Hi all- I’m 25 and just got my first shot yesterday. I have been vaccinated for nearly every disease (including yellow fever and rabies) because I have lived all over the world. That was the worst shot I have ever had. First, my nurse screwed up and jabbed me so hard I jumped and the needle fell out. So she had to give it another go. I seriously have never had a shot hurt that bad- I let the f-bomb slip. I’m a med student and not afraid of needles at all. I’m going to finish the series because I believe the prevention of cervical cancer is worth the pain. It’s really a small price to pay but the shot does suck!!!!

I am 28 years old and have received 2 of the 3 shots. The first shot was given to me a little over two months ago, and I remember how bad it hurt. I consider myself to have a high tolerance for pain, and this shot was the worst I have ever had. Not so much the piercing of the needle, but the burning of the liquid. I remember feeling a little faint when walking to the front desk, but nothing after that. I went right home, took an Advil right away, and put ice on the injection site. I had no redness or any pain.

The second shot was given to me yesterday. Again, the pain of the shot was intense. I didn’t feel faint this time, and was able to go back to work and finish out the day. That night, I developed a low grade fever (98.9), felt achy, and had arm pain at the injection site.
This morning (day after the shot), I have two red lumps on my arm at the injection site, which hurt. I called the doctor, who told me to take Advil, Benadryl, and put hydrocortisone cream on the injection site.
She said my reaction is normal. After reading these posts, I am a bit nervous at getting the third injection, but am going to get it.

I think this vaccine shouldn’t have been suggested to me. If I had to do it all over again, I would not get it. But I do believe the benefits outweigh the risks for some females.

The first one didn’t hurt but I hate doctors so I kinda had a hysteria attack and couldn’t stop laughing, and the second one was ok I guess, the liquid to me felt cold but it felt like it was burning.
Anyways, it’s been about three weeks now since I got the second shot, and I have this knot under my skin from where the shot was… it hurts and I can’t put much strain on my arm for a long time… It’s beginning to worry me.
Is that normal?

I just got the first shot today, and like a lot of people on this forum, I nearly passed out after it. The stick of the needle wasn’t bad at all, but when the liquid went in, I seriously felt like it was spreading throughout my body, and I thought I was going to throw up. It was a really weird sensation…not terribly painful, but just icky. I had my appointment at 9:30, and they told me I was the second person today to have that reaction. I had to lie down for about 20 minutes after I got the shot, but they gave me some water and I was ok to drive home after that. We’ll see how my body reacts for the next week or so, then I’ll decide if i’m going to get shots #2 and 3.

I have received the first and second gardisil shots. Both hurt worse than any other shot I’ve ever had in my life. It’s not the prick that hurts but the medicine itself. It burns when it goes in and the burning pain lasts for about 30 minutes and slowly diminishes. For some reason my doctor would not let me get the shot in my arm. they are making me get at the top part of my butt. The shots have left a big bruise each time. And it hurts to sit down for about a week. My mother is making me get the shots and my third one is coming up in August. I’m not looking forward to it. The worst part is that it might not even do me any good.

Anyway I have not had a shot in the bottom since I was a kid. Does it really hurt that much? It it going to sting my nackside to the point where I want to cry?

I just received my third shot yesterday, and I am so glad for it to be over - with the first shot, it was painful during injection and for a few days afterward, and with the second shot, i fainted minutes after receiving the shot (and the same pains occurred). With this third shot, it was also painful, but I asked them to allow me to lie down while they injected the Gardasil because of my fainting with the second shot. I did not faint with the third shot, and my arm is still sore right now but I’m very relieved that I won’t have to get another one of those painful shots again :[

As for others who haven’t gotten any of the Gardasil shots, just think of it as a few minor pains that could possibly save you from getting hpv or cervical cancer. It’s worth it, in my opinion!

I really think you all need to realise that this injection could save your lives, stop carrying on about the short term side effects and scaring people.

The small amount of pain (which is to be expected for any needle) far out weighs the pain of cervial cancer.

I am 21, recently had my first papsmear and was told there were abnormalities. I then went on to have a Colposcopy. After a biopsy of my cervix (which was very embarrassing and traumatic) they discovered I have HPV.

These procedures are uncomfortable, scary and all round not nice. Please get this vaccine!

I absolutely support you and echo your thoughts… to all young women — please get this vaccine. HOWEVER, please take precautionary measures IN CASE you are among those that get the short term side effect of fainting.

Apologies, Nikki, if you think I’m “carrying on” and scaring people. My intentions are clear: Get the shot and be prepared to lie down for a few minutes afterwards.

My daughter fainted, hit her head twice on the way down, and suffered from a mild concussion. If only we knew…

i agree. today i just had my second cervical biopsy done. the first one a year ago, was scheduled for the LEEP procedure but because of the long time frame had to redo the biopsy. the pain is bearable, but just got done vomiting. during the first biopsy i fainted. i wish this vacciine was available before i caught the HPV Virus..i will probably have to go and have the LEEP done, which will be much worse and in rare cases make a woman infertile. my advice as a 33 year old going thru the process of papsmears, biopsies, and probably LEEP surgery, i can tell the shot is no fun,but..in the end, you have the chance me and others have never had to stop from getting and going through what we are now and have gone through. as always, abstinence is the best policy and could literally save your life!!!!!

Dear All,

I have gotten all three shots. All three shots have been fine. I hope that you all understand that a vaccine is not supposed to be 100% painless. Of course, they’re sticking a needle inside of you, and inserting a liquid, it’s going to hurt. People have a fear of needles/being poked/etc. This is what is making you faint. This is an approved vaccine, and for something to be approved in the United States and worldwide (the EU has even stricter regulations)–this means that it is safe.

Please be aware of where you are hearing stories about people dying/fainting/getting ill etc. Make sure that you are reading things from credible sources, be aware of how your emotions and fears are interfering with the idea of a vaccine, and not the gardisil vaccine itself.

If you do faint, don’t worry, if your arm hurts, don’t worry, it’s going to be fine. This vaccine is out there to protect you, improve your quality of life, and hopefully reduce large risks.

Alex, I am glad that you did not experience fainting as a result of getting the shot. I do not dispute that the benefits of the vaccine are tremendous. However, please do not discount the reports of fainting by assuming it was a result of emotions or fears interfering with the idea of a vaccine. You are lucky that you did not have to suffer through the fright of not knowing what’s going on.

There is enough condescension within the medical community about this adverse side effect, and it is easy to write it off as a “fear of needles/being poked/etc.” or to buy into the concept that since the target population is one of young girls, then it’s a foregone conclusion that it must be giddiness or some other “girly” thing going on. Please don’t. This is happening to even the toughest of young ladies.

I am not afraid of needles, didnt faint, but my arm hurts and its swollen for 1week now. I have some dizziness, abdominal pain, and I notice that my skin gets red very easily. I wish I had never gotten this vaccine.

I believe the side effects, short term and UNKNOWN LONG TERM, definitely DO NOT out weigh the probability of obtaining cervical cancer and dying from it.

My 19 year old daughter has had all three shots, between January and the end of June. They were all VERY painful, but by the third day she was fine, and I pointed out a little pain is worth it versus cervical cancer. But this is the weird part - about a month after the last shot, she got pain and then a small lump developed in the outer portion of her upper arm/shoulder exactly at the shot location. This painful lump got bigger over a few days. We were on vacation and as soon as we got home she called her doctor to see if it was a delayed result from the shot, her doctor (who I trust implicitly) had never heard of a reaction before. We gave it a few more days to go away, and while the lump has not increased in size, it is getting more painful, radiating up and down the arm. So we went to see her doctor, who was totally puzzled and not sure where to refer us to, finally sending us to an orthopedic surgeon. As of now, K. has had xrays (to make sure a piece of the needle hadn’t broken off), and today had full blood work and an MRI done. We find the results on Monday. Coinincidence, maybe, but I can’t help but think this is a result of the vaccine.

I had my first Gardisil injection (without incident) at the end of September 07 and my second one at the end of November. One month after the second I noticed soreness at the injection site, and a BIG lump there (it’s probably a one inch lump, and it’s sore, but not terribly painful - but concerning). It’s now been about three days and is still the same. Any updates or similar experiences from anyone?

I work at an OBGYN office and administer the vaccine. I have had many girls tell me it is very painful. I have never had anyone faint on me, but several of the other nurses have. I ALWAYS make sure the girls lie down for about 10-15 minutes after the shot. It really works.

I feel that taking tylenol prior to the injection is important. I also suggest girls eat a little snack before the injection. If your sugar is low, it doesn’t help!

So, yes girls the shot is painful, but I see the horrible effects that HPV caan have. Young girls having to have painful procedures like a colposcopy or a LEEP, or much worse. So bear the pain for a few days, you will be so much better off!

I just came home from getting my shot. I am 17. I was fine for a few moments afterwards, the nurse told me she would leave me be for a few moments incase I would faint, just as she said that I felt myself getting sleepy. She walked away and my vision started to fade away, I had troulbe breathing (in the sense that I felt as though I no longer had concious control of my diaphragm) I remember feeling very good for a split second, as if I had not been able to sleep in days and was finally about to get the rest I wanted. I woke up with a bunch of nurses hovering over me. I didn’t even realize it at first, but I had fallen off of the ‘table’ they seat patients on, and had whacked my head on the floor. I’ve never fainted before, and don’t usually mind shots. I will definately go for the next one, however this time I think I will lie down afer I get it. I didn’t think the shot was terribly painful going in, but afterwards it is very very sore.

Hey I am 18 years old and just got my first shot about 30 minuets ago. I feel fine, and am usually not very good at dealng with pain. I was araid of the side effects and hesitated about going though with the produre. The nurse informed me that the shot would be given to me in muscle, which is the reason why there’s usually pain at the injection site. However, I’ve decided no matter how much muscle pain I recieve it will all be worth it, if I’m protcted from cervical cancer.Reading these comments have made me very nervous, I don’t know if this site has helped people or scared them away. I just got my second shot today, and after nearly passing out the first time (see original post above), I was really nervous that I would have the same reaction. I made sure to take a few tylenol and eat plenty before I went in. I also told the nurse about my reaction last time, and she let me lie down right after she gave me the injection. This helped tremendously. It wasn’t nearly as painful as the first one, and after lying down for about 10 minutes, I felt fine. I did get a little dizzy when I was standing in line to schedule my next appointment, but I sat down quickly, and it passed. At least as of right now, I haven’t had any kind of pain or swelling near the injection site after getting the shot (didn’t have that after the first shot either), so I guess I’d rather just deal with the dizziness and be done with the series in January. My advice to anyone who had a bad reaction… take tylenol, eat a lot beforehand, and ask if you can lie down right afterward. It certainly helped me.

After having no problems with the first shot, I got the second shot about a month ago. The needle did not hurt, but the liquid going into my arm was really painful. My arm was really sore so I iced it and took Advil for a week. It has now been a month and my arm still really hurts. I have been back to the doctor twice and they tell me to keep icing it and taking Advil, but there is nothing else they can do. I cant sleep on the left side of my body or use my left arm to lift anything. I have no idea how long this will go on. I am dreading getting the third shot. Has anyone else had this problem?

hey!!! my name is andrea and i am 20 years old. i recieved my first gardasil injection about 2 days ago and my arm is still sore. my mom is making me and my little sister who is 16 take all three doses of the painful injections.

i went to the gyno on monday and i knew i was going to get it. my sister was already on her second dose and she said it made her arm hurt so bad. but i am good with pain so i thought oh well whatever.

the nurse already seemed like she didnt know what she was doing, so i was a little scared. but she pricked me with the needle and i thought ok this isnt so bad. and then she told me ” ok im going to put the medicine in now…..” and i thought ok have at it i dont care… and WOW the pain i felt was insane. it only lasted for three seconds thats why i WILL be getting the other three injections but if im sorry the shot IS painful…. it feels like someone is piercing through your muscle with fire and even after a day it was still swollen and red.. and i got little bumps on the site where they gave me a shot. and it hurt bad. my mom put a warm rag on my arm for a while and it helped with the pain and i took some advil.

honestly the pain is worth it. i rather have all three shots than get cancer and die. the pain is only for like 3 seconds but it really knocks the wind out of you. but YOU WILL BE FINE… ok?? i just hope that from reading all these stories i dont get a lump on my arm or something…

i got it on my right arm but i think i will be getting it on the other arm next time in november when my next appt for the injection is. its still sooo sore. but worth it!!!

i would def reccomend it.

and i never once passed out. i passed out once in my life from an injection and that was one on my butt. this was painful as hell but nothing too crazy.

go for it!!!!

I am 26 and have had the first Gardasil shot on my obgyn’s recommendation. Yes, it hurt pretty badly and I can still feel the shot location a month later. Other than the pain and slight swelling, I did not have any side effects.

My main concern now though, is the effect on my future fertility. I had to have my right ovary removed several years ago so am very concerned about my ability to become pregnant in the future. I can’t seem to find any information on whether Gardasil has any effects on fertility. One blog that I read said that the aluminum ingredient in the shot can have a negative effect on fertility, but I’m not sure what to believe. Any input?

Also, are there any negative side effects to having only one shot and not completing the entire course? I really don’t think I want to get the next two.

I had my third shot yesterday Friday, September 14th. I had no problems with the first two. So when I asked the doctor as she was walking out of the room if this shot was the same as the others. She said yes. So I thought ok I know what to expect. The nurse came in and as soon as she stuck the needle in a injected me I lost my hearing and then my eye sight…i got really pale and hot.. the nurse kept saying you’re getting pale.. and I felt myself faded. They ran and got me water and started fanning me.. I slowly started feeling myself come back. First my hearing started coming back then my eyesight started getting clearer and I could feel my body cooling off. I don’t know if I should have gotten these shots.

I just had my third and final shot yesterday. My arm is killer sore today, but it’s definitely worth it. The needle is small and isn’t bad going in, but it feels like ice is coarsing through your veins about 5 seconds after the initial prick. You can feel it spread throughout your arm- it’s a truly bizarre and painful shot.

I never had any fainting reactions or lumps (knock on wood). My arm was sore for a day for shots 1 and 2, and with shot 3, it is currently still sore after 24 hours, unlike with the first two.

The third is definitely the most painful, but protecting yourself is worth the initial discomfort. Don’t shy away from this injection- you’re worth it. And with HPV, if your partner doesn’t know he/she has it, you can easily contract the disease, even with protection. Be safe!

My mother made me get this shot.

The first one was awful. I have never felt such pain from any vaccination before. No one likes getting stuff poked into them, but the year before I entered college I received 5 shots at my checkup and none of them were as bad as Gardasil. I had intense pain in the injection site for about 2 weeks after receiving it.

My second shot was so bad my body temperature rose, I had the most massive headache I have ever felt, blacked out and then fainted. After that shot I had severe pain in my arm for 2 months.

I am refusing to get the 3rd shot.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on this lately and it does not seem worth it to me when they do no even know how long this will last. There are no long-term case studies to find out how effective it will be. If you are not having unprotected sex right now then what is the problem?

I had my first shot of the Gardasil yesterday. The injection itself was not painful. I experienced only a little sting and NONE of the dizziness, fainting, or other side effects others have reported. However, my deltoid is super sore! The pain is similar to lifting too much at the gym. I can’t lift it over my head. I believe that this vaccination is worth the pain and will continue with the next two. I will just have to make sure they rotate arms. I

I’m almost 18 and got my first Gardasil shot about a month ago I think it was. I hate shots to begin with, but I decided to try and be tough for this one. Usually shots don’t hurt too bad, and the prick wasn’t what hurt. You can feel the medicine go down your arm. I lost my breath for a second, and I think I just sat there wide-eyed because I wasn’t expecting that! It was super painful and just really weird. I starting feeling really light-headed and the nurse said I turned white. I laid down for a few minutes, but my arm hurt for the rest of the day. It especially hurt if I bent down and put it near the floor (I know, weird) and when I bent it in a certain position. I don’t want to go back to get my 2nd or 3rd one! :(

My 12y.o. daughter got her 3rd shot yesterday. Other than a sore arm, she had no other reaction to the first 2, and she has always been a great “trouper” when it came to weathering vaccinations. HOWEVER, YESTERDAY WAS DIFFERENT AND SCARY. My daughter was relaxed after her shot and was even giggling with me. Suddenly, she later reports, she was spinning inside, she stopped hearing me and only heard her heartbeat, and her head throbbed. The next thing she knew, she was lying on the floor of the doctor’s office. She did not see it, but I did — she hit her head on the examination table then again on the tile floor. She was out for less than a minute then had mild convulsions (erratic arm movements) as she was coming to. The doctor and his staff seemed convinced it was due to stress, but my gut told me NO… my daughter was relaxed and chatting with me. I believe she has had some form of concussion as she has severe headaches and frequent dizziness today (so I kept her home from school which made her VERY unhappy as she’s a good student). I am glad to see these posts… now I know I should trust my instincts. WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE SURE MERCK & THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY TAKE US SERIOUSLY? True, not everyone has this reaction, but it should not be dismissed as “stress induced.”

I tried posting this once before, so sorry if this is a duplicate.

Today I got my Gardasil shot, and for the first time in my life- passed out from a shot. The only time I have ever passed out in the past was when I had the flu, and it was completely different.

When I first got the shot, it was like any other shot, and I even commented to the nurse - “that wasn’t so bad!”

After that, I started to feel burning, and my muscles started to tense. I asked her if it was normal, and then told her I was feeling dizzy.

The next moment, I woke up to people saying my name and I was passed out on the floor. Apparently I had leaned forward out of my chair head first and collapsed on the floor. I sat up quickly because I didnt know what happened, AND PASSED OUT AGAIN!

Now, there are 3 shots in the series and I am afraid of the 2nd and 3rd! I told my doctor that I want to lie down the next time, or at least have some nurses ready to catch me if I fall!

This was a very weird experience for me because I’m not used to passing out like that. Usually, I see everything cclosing in. This time, I remembered nothing of falling or anything.

I had my first shot about 8 days ago and my arm is still sore - it aches when I lift it above my head and I can’t sleep on my left side. There is a red bump at the injection site about the size of a dime. I haven’t had any other side effects thus far. I’ve never had a reaction like this to a shot- and I’m not really sure if I want to have the other 2.

Hii I’m 13 and I got my first jab on Friday. My Mum had suggested I look it up and read about it seeing as I was so scared. And I discovered this forum and read all your accounts. Now I have a big fear of needles so I was terrified. I cried before my shot. My doctor gave it to me just below my back. I felt a tiny prick but I barely realised he had done it. Because he gave it to me in my back I didn’t feel the liquid that you all felt. I didn’t pass out though it is sore today. All I would say to people like me who come on here to find out more,,,is don’t panic. I got myself worked up for nothing. It really depends on your doctor and anyway the government are giving it to every teenage girl from next year. So smile =]
Cancer would be far worse

There is no need for all this fear-mongering. Of course you have different symptoms than ever before. The fact is, most young people have only ever experienced subcutaneous injections. An intra-muscular injection such as this is more invasive and does have more effects than one under the skin. It’s like injecting liquid under the skin of a peach, compared to injecting it into a dense chunk of cheese. It’s going to feel differently! Some tips for you in the future:

-Take tylenol or ibuprofen an hour before your shot, to lessen the pain of the shot. There are some reports that the injection is painful, so taking a pain killer should ease that.
-Eat a light meal an hour before the shot, so your blood sugar is steady
-Lie down for the shot and for about 15 minutes after, as there are some reports of people feeling dizzy
-Do relaxation breathing before, during and after the injection to stay calm.
-MOVE the arm afterwards to prevent stiffness and swelling at the injection site, and to help disperse the liquid in the muscle. This will prevent there being a lump at the injection site in the weeks after
-Be sure to have someone with you, monitoring you, after the injections

I’m 18 and I just got my first shot of Gardasil today. I’m small and skinny, but never have problems with other vaccines or shots (just got menningitus shot and although I was VERY sore, I was fine otherwise).

Immediately after getting the shot, I felt like I was going to throw up, everything around me was fuzzy and black, and I was extremely dizzy. I have no problem getting shots but this one was PAINFUL and I seriously wanted to cry. I’m dreading the other two.

I’m 21 and I just had my 2nd Gardasil shot today. For the 1st shot, I was pretty calm. It felt really cold going in and I could feel it going up into my shoulder blade, but it was not painful by any means and I had a slightly sore arm for about two hours afterwards.

For the 2nd injection, I was completely terrified and on the verge of passing out, as I’m in the middle of my Uni exam period and have such high amounts of adrenaline and all that jazz. I had the injection and this time I could not feel the serum going in and there was a tiny cramp in my shoulder blade. I then walked two kilometres home.

It’s now been an hour, I feel fine and I have no pain. I think the trick is that I took two nurofen, which are anti-inflammatories, about an hour prior to the injection. However, I didn’t take them with my first shot and didn’t experience any major pain.

I have a lot of sympathy for those of you who have had pain with it. All I can say is good luck, try and find a good nurse and rememember that chemotherapy is ten times as bad as this.

My daughter took her first shot in July and the next one in Sept. 07 and shortly afterward begin to notice problems with her eyes and went to her eye doctor and was given eye drops. A short time after that she went blind. With the help of sternoids and two months later her vision is still impaired. She is on liquid eye drops of sternoids as well as orally. We have tried backing off the sternoids and her sight goes from some sight to blurred vision. We are to see another specialist soon, but we are afraid of the long term usage of sternoid. We are being told that her vision issue is not a side effect of Gardasil, but I do not believe this. We are hopeful that she will regain her full sight back soon.

For all of you who are thinking about receiving this vaccine, especially for your young children, PLEASE do your research because practicing safe sex can defeat any virus or vaccine with soo many serious side effects. Besides, I read that the vaccine will protect you for 4-5 years. That means if you are 16, you are covered until age 20, so what happens next?

I am 15, just got my first shot yesterday…i absolutely hate shots, I went in thinking that I was to get only one, but ended up being told that I needed four…I am extremely scared to get my second one. After getting my shots, I went into the lobby while my mother talked to the receptionist…I started feeling extremely light headed, and the next thing I knew I was on the floor being woken up by my nurse. they brought me into the office and I was extremely shooken up, they gave me some juice and I sat for 15 minutes. They told me that while I was out I was having a small seizure. My mother was worried, so they assured that it was just my body reacting to the relief of having the shots over with. I had a ver high blood pressure before the faint and afterwards it was normal. Right now, I have a large swelling on my injection site. I guess it doesn’t do me any good to be paranoid about this, but I am just a little worried…

…just a little.

I actually got the HPV from my ex-husband, developed cervical cancer and had to get a hysterectomy at the age of 34. I have 2 daughters, 15 and 10 and was THRILLED to have this opportunity to protect my children since HVP warts are not always evident. The 15 year old received her second shot 1 week ago on a Tuesday. By Saturday, she was sick with high fever and flu like symptoms, but I didn’t think it was related to the Gardasil. Yesterday, (Tuesday 1 week out) she developed severe pain in her upper arm at the site of the injection and cannot use her arm. I was stumped and now after reading all the posts, am afraid its a reaction. She will still get the 3rd shot tho … better than a hysterectomy!

My 17 year old daughter had the first shot with little pain or problems. She had her 2nd 2 weeks ago and it was a different story. She had severe pain from the moment the injection went in. Within 4 days she was literally crying with pain. It has been 2 weeks now and the pain isn’t any better. She cannot lift her arm past her waist because of the weakness and pain. There is no swelling or reddness where the injection went in. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

I would like to add that I just recieved the first shot and there weren’t any side affects for me. It’s just the matter of being calm and moving your arm (even though it feels num) Afterwards. I couldn’t feel the needle at all it’s just the med that goes into that makes things weird. It felt like it was bunching up in one area… but it moved throughout my arm then i was fine. This shot helps you prevent cervical cancer and i would rather go through the shot than have that.

Suggestions for girls reading this and scheduled for the shot soon is that:
- Stay calm, don’t tense up
- Try and move your arm around afterwards because it will hurt less later on.
- Don’t be nervous about hearing about all the side affects the people in this have had..it will just scare you more…because i was fine.
- Don’t get the shot on an empty stomach because that will cause fainting.

I got the vaccine a month ago. No problems at all, but then a week and a half later I developed itching all over. I was at school on a Monday night and decided to go to the computer lab and look at all the side effects surrounding Gardasil. I don’t know if it was a coincidence, or if I was having an anxiety attack, but I immediately began sweating, feeling dizzy, and having an abnormal heartbeat as I read. I went home, calmed down and slept well through the night until I was woken up at 5 a.m. with a massive headache, and I never get headaches. This was on November 21st. Later that day, as the dizziness, blurred vision, and headache carried on I decided to go to the emergency room. The dizziness and such went away but I still have a headache every day. It’s destroying my life. I wasn’t able to be with my family on Thanksgiving and I’m not able to study for my finals.

I’m interested in people who have had the vaccine over a month ago. How long did it take for your symptoms to go away? How long have you been having symptoms? Did you have headaches at all? Did your symptoms start a couple weeks after you actually go the shot? Does that seem realistic?? Any information would help, I am really feeling like I don’t even want to live anymore with this headache that may or may not be related to Gardasil. Please help, on here or at my e-mail address: vtorosia@mail.usf.edu

thanks and Merry Christmas

Emily had her first shot on aug 27. It is now Nov. 11. Although she had no immediate side effects, she did start to have dizzy spells, then fainting spells, then moved on to dizzy, weak, fainting spells. She now has temporary paralysis problems. At least one time every day, she cant feel her legs. The first time or two, it was only her feet and general sense of ‘just dont feel good’. Then it was numbness to, then above her knees. The last three episodes, she couldnt breathe properly. This only lasted a few minutes, but each time it gets worse, and lasts longer.
She is 14, went to school regularly, played volleyball, practicing for the ‘color guard’ helping the fireplug cheerleaders while her brother played football, ….and on and on and on…very active with lots of friends.
She hasnt been to school since Oct. 17. I have quit my job to be home with her. What else is there to do?
Have you seen all the stuff that is in these shots? I would not ever recommend them to anyone, not even my worst enemy.
If it doesnt offend you, I’ll remember you and your daughter in my prayers.

I actually contracted HPV and it’s not so bad, but had I known about the vaccine earlier, I would have been a lot safer with my activities and taken the vaccine. I’ve learned from my mistakes though, my sister just recently got her last shot, and said the third one was extremely painful. In terms of vaccines, there are pros and cons. Ideal vaccines would in fact prevent infection and provide long lasting immunity. Vaccines are in fact not as reliable as you’d think. Vaccines are designed to prevent epidemic outbreaks, you’re in fact protecting the rest of humanity from contracting whatever it is you have. Don’t think you can receive the vaccine and never contract HPV. The best thing is to abstain from sexual activities. Trust me, Medical school has taught me so much over these past 3 years. If I knew what I know now, years ago, things would be a lot different.

This vaccine is doing more harm than good. I got the vaccine on 11/28/07 I am 22 years old and I had headaches every single night that week. Now I itch everyday and I feel like my eyes are burning. I only got the first shot and I WILL NOT under ANY circumstances complete the series. I am very upset by this and very disturbed that this vaccine is being pushed so hard yet girls are fainting, having seizures, and breaking out in hives. I pray and believe that my case will not get worse as a result of this terrible vaccine.

I am 22-years-old and received the shot today following a routine pap smear. After a suggestion from the doctor, I received the shot without consulting my mom who is a RN. I had seen the commercials that come on every 5 minutes on television and Gardasil seemed like a good idea. Especially since a friend of my contracted HPV, but it’s unknown if she received it from her birth mother or a partner. I received my flu shot in my right arm and the Gardasil shot in the left. The first shot wasn’t bad but the Gardasil shot really hurt and I have never had a problem with a shot before. Immediately after the shot I felt sick. After standing up to checkout I began to feel really hot and nauseated. I began to sweat and asked a nurse if it was a normal symptom but then the room became dark and I began to faint. The nurse took me to a room to lay down and have a drink of water. Afterwards I began to feel better. After talking with my mother and researching Gardasil I wish I had never taken the shot. It appears that a large portion of girls and women who recieve the shot have similar reactions, which in addition to faiting include forming a large bump on the injection site that persits for months and even vision problems. According to the World Health Organization, American Cancer Society (2005), I am only “one less” of the 10,370 women that contracted cervical cancer in the United States and of that number 3,710 deaths were reported. I AM NOT continuing with these shots. I strongly encourage everyone to do their research before submitting themselves or their daughter to these shots.

HPV vaccinations may not only be medically useless; they may also be harmful to the health of the young girls receiving them.

This report reveals startling facts about the HPV vaccine that most people will find shocking:

• How it may actually increase the risk of precancerous lesions by 44.6 percent.

• The FDA has, for four years, known that HPV was not the cause of cervical cancer.

• Why mandatory HPV vaccination policies may cause great harm to young girls.

• Why HPV infections are self-limiting and pose no real danger in healthy women

• Little-known FDA documents that reveal astounding facts about Gardasil

• How Big Pharma promoted its Gardasil vaccine using disease mongering and fear mongering

I just got my third and final shot today. Still hurt like hell (but I was expecting it, so I’ve been taking some advil), but otherwise, no other side effects. Didn’t even feel dizzy after it today. My arm’s a little sore when I move it up and down, but I’m used to that as well after getting the first two. My final analysis: yes, the shots suck. However, it’s a total of 6 months out of my life that will now protect me for at least 5 years against something that could cause cancer in the future. I think it’s worth it.

I got my first two Gardicil shots this year and am getting my 3rd one tomorrow. all of my friends have gotten them too and not one of them had dizziness or dakening of vision or fever or red lumps. It didnt happen to me either. The only thing that happened was the unexplainable pain of the shot! gosh it hurt so bad i wanted to hit the doctor for showing it to my mom. but that was it! No side effects. Im sorry that happened to you all though!

sit down! that is the first thing i can say! Then, tell the nurse to squeze the top of your arm while she is injecting the shot! it makes it not hurt at all! I SWEAR! I didnt feel a thing! just a little bit of pressure!!!! It works it really does! Try it!

Hi! I am 15 years old. In the Summer of 2007, I received my first Gardasil shot (which did hurt). Either that night or the next day, I was looking in the mirror, opened my mouth, and saw these white spots on the back of my throat (the dangly thing, a.k.a. the uvuela). I thought it was nothing at first, but then a few days later I saw more spots and then the spots turned into a big patch. I went to the doctor and 3 doctors looked at me, none of them knew what was wrong. The next day, they called me and told me to go to Children’s Hospital In Philadelphia. They had at least 30 people look at my throat, 3 or 4 throat cultures, and they even took pictures! All they said was that I had a yeast infection in my throat and Candidid, which only little kid’s usually get, not perfectly heathly teenagers or adults. So I got about 20 blood tests done over the next few months. When I got the 2nd shot, my throat was a little red (and hurt just as much at the first one did) and I had a cold for about 1 or 2 months straight, and a month after the shot, my lymph nodes had gotten swollen. One of the blood tests had said my immunity system is low, which I think is a cause of Gardasil. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth it at all, the only way to get Cervical Cancer is if your working on the corner…

Hey guys! I wrote awhile back about getting my third one the next day! It hurt sooooooooo bad and it was a little sore afterward but thats it! I am twelve years old and I didnt faint or anything it just hurt a lot when they put in the needle and put in the fluid! I dont know any of my twelve year old friends that fainted or have swelling or anything! So either you all are really wimpy teenagers or you are just imagining all of this stuff to life just cause one person said they fainted or had swelling. If any of you have questions about my non awful experience reply to this comment! I will tell you how easy it was and that whoever is scared about the stuff they are seeing on this webpage dont worry about it! I read this before i went in to get mine and i cried all night for nothing cause nothing bad happened! just trust me!

I just got my 2nd dose 15 minutes ago, and everything went pretty much as expected. It was somewhat painful when they injected the vaccine, but apparently this is due to the virus-like particles in the vaccine. I have to admit I am very surprised by the number of patients fainting and having adverse effects, because really the only side effects that have been documented in these trials is soreness at the injection site, and fever (according to my doctor).

Pelvic pain
Severe stomach pain
Pain, swelling or stiffness in joints
Pain, swelling, redness or itching at the injection site
Mild fever
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach (always)
Dizziness (often)
Runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough
Muscle pain and general weakness (constant)
Fainting (2 times)

My daughter has recvd 2 of the vaccines/shots and will not get the third. She has been hospitalized (ER) twice over the past 5 months. Once, by ambulance from her college dorm. Diagnosis: NONE-stress etc due to college life. They ran all the blood tests, MRI of her head (fainting), ultrasound for ? of gallbladder disease/stones–all negative. Next, they want to run GI series. Of course, I will have these test, in fear that there could be something else but I am so sceptic now after reading all these reports and blogs…

My daughter is an athlete, plays college Lacrosse, and is in such pain all the time now. She NEVER had any of these symptoms prior to recving this vaccine. PLEASE, think twice about having your daughter receive this vaccine. Educate yourself and her about the ramifications of this drug. Teach her to abstain instead of feeling the pain from this drug… even death (God forbid)—there have been at least 11 deaths to date and over 4000 reports of negative reactions…

I can understand the fear…which is why I had her take the vaccine to begin with…I now wish I had not. My daughter loves sports and cannot play now, this would have been her 2nd year playing college lacrosse and it is just destroying her “college” life feeling the way she does. Shoulda-coulda…wish I read more about Gardisil before having her take it….
Since I am not seeing any adverse reactions, if this post does not stay on this site, I will know that this is true propaganda FOR this very very bad vaccine.

My 11 year old daughter just finished her series of shots. The first and second caused pain at the injection site with no other symtoms. The third one also caused pain. Then, 24 hours later she has a quarter sized lump at the injection site. We iced it and it went down right away. I also gave her Benadryl and rubbed Cortizone on the site. We will just keep an eye on it. I myself at age 37 just had a hysterectomy due to possible cervical cancer. What a scare to see your whole life pass before you. I have three young children and I could not imagine not seeng them grow up. In the last few years I have been thru it with HPV. From having Colpos (Microscope used to look a cervix) and being checked every four months for the past two years to see if it had come back. I also had a Leep performed which was very uncomfortabe. All I can say these shots are the better than cancer. You have to do what is right for you!

I got my second shot yesterday. I had my first shot along with two others, and i got VERY close to fainting. my vision was black, my hearing was weird…my face was sheet white (they said)i think i only felt that way because of the multitude of shots though. anyways i dont know why everyone says its so painful. I have a low tolerance to pain and it wasnt bad. i mean, it hurt, but its like 2 seconds. itls litterally like a sibling pinching your arm. The second time i also got light-headed but i knew better than to stand up. i layed down and i was fine. although i did feel like i was going to fall over in the elevator….but think of it this way. temporary pain, or cancer? Plus, seriously its no big deal. anyone whos getting this shot, its no. big. deal. if your afraid of shots have them give it to you while laying down. Its been about a day since ive been injected. my arm is slightly sore, it was pretty sore yesterday. but nothing was unbearable or not worth it

I really feel for the women and girls who have written in. Having adverse reactions to vaccines is a scary situation and I hope everyone followed up for their reactions. However, I hope everyone knows what they are talking about when they demonize GardaSIL. Up until December I was enjoying life as a happily married (for 15 years) wife and mother. My two little boys are my life. And to answer what you’re thinking, no I didn’t have tons of sex partners before marriage nor did my husband. Well, in December (while my boys and I were busy coloring reindeers to hang on the Christmas tree) came the call about the (first ever) abnormal PAP. Then the Colpos, then the LEEP, then the bleeding b/c they couldn’t get my cervix to stop gushing blood during the LEEP. You get the idea. The fact is that HPV can lay dormant for years (17 years in my case), strains 16 & 18 which don’t cause warts, DO cause Cervical Cancer which WILL KILL YOU. The risk of the shot is far slighter than seeing your life flash before your eyes when the GYN calls and says you are heading down the fast-track to cervical cancer. People who are trashing Gardasil need to get over their “holier-than-though” attitudes and wake up to the fact that just about anyone can contract HPV and some of those people will go on to Dysplasia and then cancer. I’m living proof. Luckily, I had a good GYN who was serious about following up and treating my hSIL. (That is High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion for those of you who haven’t been through what I have) I’m going to be fine with lots of follow up. Do I wish I had recieved the GardaSIL vaccine when I was teen? You bet.

Hi, everyone! I am 13 years old going on 14 and I have had 2 out of the 3 shots. When I had gotten the first shot it had felt as if nothing at all had been done, but I was going for more than one shot. After I had gotten my chicken pox shot I started to feel “woozy,” and was told to lie down. I really don’t know if it was the Gardisil or the chicken pox shot that made me ill, but, anyway, after I walked to my mom’s car I really didn’t fel good at all. I just felt weak. The next time I went for my shot I squeezed my mom’s finger as much as the shot hurt (my mom said I wasn’t sqeezing that hard). I had to get the menincococcal or something like that shot (short for meningitis) which is said to be painful as well, but thought they hurt about the same. Not that bad. Now, this is coming from a needlephobe, so I don’t think you need to be that scared of the first 2 shots. The only thing that I am scared of is the 3rd shot, which is said to be the most painful,is this true? My mom is a nurse and says it all is the same shot…She says it is just that people work theirselves up so much about the shot it seems so much worse than it really is.

My 10 year old daughter just got her third shot yesterday. The first 2 shots went by with no problems, except a sore arm for a little bit. The third shot wasn’t that bad either. She got the shot 9am and around 6pm she felt dizzy and nauseous. This morning her stomach hurt a little bit, but all in all, I would believe the shot is worth it down the road. I don’t even know if the symptoms she had were related to the shot.

I just got my first shot Wednesday (it’s Friday now). I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews here. I asked around to friends and coworkers who have received the shot, and none of them had experienced anything worse than soreness in their arm for a day or so, and most said the shot burned as it went in.

My experience: I’m 24 years old, 5′3″, 105 lbs. I took 800 mg of ibuprofen that morning (around 8) and then had the shot around 2:00. I hadn’t eaten much that day, so I grabbed a small lunch on the way to the office. The shot was about the same feeling as having your blood drawn, which I don’t mind at all, and I didn’t experience any pain along with it. For just a few seconds after she removed the needle, I felt warmth in about a 2″ circumference around the injection site. Afterward, though, there was no soreness, no lump as some have said, and I didn’t feel light headed at all. I think the Ibuprofen may have helped with this, since it helps control inflammation, as well as just blocking some of my pain receptors.

So, for anyone who’s thinking about having it, I definitely recommend getting it done, just after making sure your body is ready to receive a shot. Also, the nurse I saw said that often girls will experience light-headedness if they are getting the vaccine along with other shots as well, just due to the sudden dose of medication into your body. So perhaps plan around that if possible.

I’ll try to post again after shot #2 and #3, as I’ve heard that they can be a bit more intense.

Good luck to all!

I have had 2 rounds of the shot so far. I am 23 yrs old and don’t have a history of medical problems, but right after the first shot was administered I fainted and had a seizure which caused me to lose bladder control. I didn’t put it together that the shot could be the reason until now. I hadn’t eaten yet that morning so the doctor just told me that my blood sugar was probably low.

Ummm. Just so you know. millions of women who DO NOT have unprotected premarital sex, but wait for their final soul mate partner can still get the disease. No matter how “good” they have been sexually all of their lives, their spouse can still give them the disease after they are married. it has happened millions of times. one could be the perfect parent, raising a perfect child; but that child will marry her husband, have sex with him, and get a disease and it is NOT at ALL the fault of her parents. These kind of comments are so annoying to me. completely opinionated and not even true.

There is no substitute for good parenting. How about an injection of reality? Just use condoms and do not have so many partners. HPV is an std which is contracted through unprotected sex. Even if you get this vaccine it does not give you carte blanche to have unprotected sex. Just use condoms and there is no reason you should take this vaccine. It doesnt even guarentee you will be protected either, it “may” protect you from 4 types of HPV and you still can actually get these same 4 types anyway. If you are worried your daughter will have unprotected sex with a few or more people then I would say you have doubts about your parenting ability, and are trying to substitute your doubts of your parenting ability with this very unsafe vaccine that can cause a reaction that can cause death, or even cancer. If this is you then perhaps you shouldn’t even be parent in the first place. The pros do not outweigh the cons in the case of this vaccine. The cons are possible, death, possible higher risk of cancer, the pros are it may prevent four types of HPV your child shouldnt get in the first place if she has protected sex. It seems to be a compensation problem here. You are worried about your ability as a parent and compensating for that doubt with this shot that may turn out to deadly. Shame on you.

Everything in the world that happens always ends up to be bad parenting. It’s a way of putting the blame somewhere other than where it belongs- the person or child that did the deed. There will always be bad apples and uncaring people at any age, but a general statement of always the parents fault is false and age discriminatory. Many parents, like myself have tried everything including outside help when all else fails, to warn, guard, teach and arm their children with all the facts and knowledge they can think of to keep them safe and on the right path. Unfortunately, over 1/3 of children in the US do not listen and don’t want to hear anything the parent has to say. Of course, they don’t have to. Once they turn 16, the law says they can do whatever they want including quit school, not come home, tell the parent what to do, and all with no consiquences except their eventual self destruction which they will not see untill it is too late. Even before 16, there is no support or backing to make a child do what the parent says. Only laws to tie the parents hands. Some kids don’t care about anything enough to use psychological disciplines, so saying “please honey, don’t do that or you will lose a privelidge” Doesn’t work! Timeout? they walk out. So if a shot will protect them even a little, when you know they won’t protect themselves - so be it. I have seen a lot of controversy over this and finally took the advise of her GYN or said she gave the shot to her own little sister. She goes for her second shot today, the first was uneventful except for a slight itchy rash which I’m not sure was from the shot because it showed up days later.

I got my second shot today and it wasn’t until we where at dinner when my mom had told a friend about how she thought I was “blowing things out of proportion” about my arm being sore after I got the first shot. Well about a week after I got the first one, my mom read an article in the paper about girls who have actually fainted after getting the shot. Now I know why she tried to hold my hand as I got my second shot.

As for side effects. The first one I just had a really sore arm (then again I had gotten three other shots that day, two in each arm) and some swelling/redness. As for the one I got today, I felt a little sick after getting it but I’m fine now (that may be because I hadn’t eaten since breakfast when I got the shot at about 4PM EST).

Luckily, I got the shot in my left arm. I just so happen to sleep on my right side…so I’m happy.
Sadly, I screwed up my shoulder on my left arm (and it’s causing my elbow and wrist to hurt), so this is just adding to the pain.

I was getting my physical so I can get my permit/making sure I am fine because I am 16 and haven’t started my period yet when the doctor said I needed to get some shots. She mentioned the Gardasil and my mom said she wanted me to get it, not even asking me if I wanted it >

My daughter got her 3rd HPV vaccine. That nite her throat swelled up and 3 days later her eardrum perforated. Next day the other one perforated. She was on the mend and then got a sore throat and is now throwing up. Since getting that 3rd shot, she’s been sick for over 2 weeks. After reading all these, I wish I had never gotten her this vaccine. Every time she got it, she got a little bit sick, but this time is too much.

I’d like to start by addressing some of the comments previously posted:

HPV can be transmitted even with the use of a condom, because it is transmitted via skin to skin and a condom does not protect the entire genital region.

Also, even though Gardasil only protects against four strains of HPV, the good thing is even if you have been sexually active and have contracted one of these strains, the shot will help to protect you against the others that you don’t have. Yes, it may not even protect you from those ones, but that is just like any immunization, they don’t work for everyone.

On a personal note, I don’t think the number of sexual partners you have reflects onto your parent’s “parenting skills.” Having sex is usually a personal choice unless you have been raped. Teens and young adults need to take responsibility for their actions.

I’m still not sure whether I am pro-gardasil or not. I feel for many of you who have posted as I have gone through similar experiences. Here is my story..

I’m a 23, and I got my first shot late summer of last year, and finished my last shot 2 and a half weeks ago. I got all shots administered within the correct time frame. I have a VERY high pain tolerance, I do not fear shots or needles, I have no allergies, and have never experienced a side effect from an immunization in the past. I got the shot because it was recommended by my gyno and because I thought it necessary to protect myself.

Shot #1 was painful while being injected into my arm and hurt a little afterwards, perhaps a 2 or 3 on a scale of 10. The pain lasted a day or two and I went back to my normal daily routine. I had no other side effects.

Shot #2 was worse. Not only did the actual injection of the shot hurt worse than the first time, I also fainted at my doctor’s office within 5 min of receiving it. I sat down for a few minutes, had some water and left. It wasn’t that big of a deal, I knew there was side effects associated with the shot, however what came next I wasn’t ready for. I had EXTREME muscle and joint pain for the following 8 WEEKS. The pain would move from my deltoid to my shoulder blade and to my collar bone area. Sometimes the pain would shoot through my arm. By extreme pain I mean almost unusable. I couldn’t sleep on my left side, raise my arm, getting undressed or unhooking my bra was almost too much to take. Try not moving one of your arms for that long and tell me thats not a huge pain in your ass. I tried hot packs, I tried cold packs, nothing helped. I called my doctor and she told me that it would go away..eventually. Well as nice as that sounds 8 weeks goes by real slow when you are in pain. I averaged about 9 Aleve a day in order to try and do normal things, but that didn’t really help either. Finally one day, the pain just stopped.

I compared my pros and cons and decided to go forth with shot three. The benefits of the shot are great, I will admit that much.

Shot #3 hurt even worse than shot 2 when being administered. I made sure I stayed seated for 10 minutes with some water before trying to leave because I did not want to faint again. The nurse told me to make sure I move it as much as possible to avoid the pain like the time before, so I did. About 3 hours after getting the shot, I fainted while at the grocery store, which is embarrassing enough as it is. An hour after that I developed a fever of 102, had body aches everywhere, vomited, and was extremely tired. The following day I was still nauseous and my arm still hurt. I once again have the extreme are pain I did before. It will be 3 weeks on Thursday. I hope that this won’t last the length that it did before.

None of my friends who have gotten the shot have experienced any side effects, and as I’ve read some of you haven’t either. I can’t say I’d recommend getting the shot or not getting the shot, that is not my place, however PLEASE take into consideration that some people do experience very negative side effects and that person could be you or your child. Be prepared for it. Do some research about it, and talk to your doctor about the side effects. And please, don’t try and say people are weary of shots or try and explain its from some other source, because its not from another source, its from Gardasil.

I’m not convinced that adequate research/testing was done about Gardasil in the first place. Especially since prescription drugs are such a booming business, Merck is making a lot of money off this shot, perhaps without providing enough information about what could happen. (and what could happen in the next 10 years, since they have not done any long term testing) They say my arm pain only happened in less than 1% of the test group, but from reading your postings, I believe that number must be higher.

I know the benefits of Gardasil are great, but I can’t help and think what they might say about it a year from now or even 5 years from now. Please do your research, educate yourself, and talk to your doctor!

I took my 11 year old twins yesterday to have the first shot. Although both girls are considered to be of normal weight, my older twin is 30 lbs lighter than her sister. Neither of the girls is particularly bothered by shots and both have high pain /discomfort tolerances. Both girls complained that the shot stung, they felt like they couldn’t hear momentarily and the smaller twin had dizziness and then fainted upon leaving the examination room. Her sister had no other reaction. It seems to me that the slighter girls should not be getting the same dosage as girls closer to 100 pounds or more. I am undecided about taking either back for the remaining two injections.

I recieved my first Garadsil shot in August of 2007, and in about 2 weeks, I experienced feelings of extreme depression for about 3 days, which is really unusual for me bacause I have never been depressed, and it came on so suddenly with no explanation! After the depressing feelings subsided on the 3rd day, I noticed that I was seeing completely different. My pupils have been dialating irregulary since the first and only shot I recieved in August, and because of this weird dialation, I have extreme sensitivity to bright lights, distorted/hazed vision, constant headaches and brief periods of on/off depression because of this new perspective that I have acquired. My family has spent thousands of dollars on tests trying to better understand my condition, MRIs/CT scans revealed no signs of brain tumors or abnormalities. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I would have rather had to battle cancer then see like this for the rest of my life. I am wondering if anyone has any information on the side effects of Gardasil, anything that can possibly reverse the effects, anything is appreciated at this point. email at ilovemarlinthorson@hotmail.com
thanks so much

I completed the vaccine series last September (2007). For me, it stung as bad as an MMR shot when it was going in. For those Moms out there, that’s the one kids usually get in the back of their arms & nurses save until the end b/c kids almost always cry with that one. I had a little soreness at the site for about 15 minutes afterwards. After the 1st & 2nd shots, I noticed that I had a little lump under my skin & it lasted for quite a while (prob. 3 weeks or so), but it wasn’t really sore. I thought that was a little weird but I honestly never considered stopping the series because I was definitely willing to risk having a couple little bumps under my skin (that only I noticed anyway) for the rest of my life it it meant avoiding cervical cancer. In the U.S., we have pretty good rates of women getting Pap smears, so for us lucky Americans, we are more likely to have pre-cancerous cells detected on a Pap smear long before we get cervical cancer. I have friends who have had abnormal Paps & it was torturous for them getting the culposcopies & all those follow-up exams. If Gardasil saves me from that, then YAY GARDASIL!!

Gardasil and Merck are blatantly misogynist because HPV is NOT SPECIFIC TO FEMALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Males are carriers. No one has even suggested vaccinating the carriers, the males. Why is this allowed to continue at the expense of our little girls!? Either it is safe to vaccinate males and females or it is not safe to vaccinate either one.

Because vaccinations carry a certain amount of risk that must be weighed against benefit. It’s harder to justify that risk to boys when they aren’t threatened by cervical cancer. While penile cancer has also been linked to HPV, it’s extremely rare. Anal and throat cancers related to HPV have also been on the rise, but their numbers don’t compare either. Some males might choose it to protect partners and avoid warts, but it sure is a tough sell to broadly advise a vaccination that has a tiny but real risk of death for something that doesn’t really threaten the person being vaccinated.

I am 21 and just received my first Gardasil shot today, and it is not that bad. Yes, my arm is sore, but that happens with all VACCINES. Remember getting your booster shots? Those were just as bad. Also, my mom made me and my sister both get Hepatitis vaccines, and those are wayyyyyyy worse. It feels like they are injecting gasoline into your arm. So compare to that Gardasil was easy.

Also, the reason Gardasil is aimed at women is because HPV causes cervical cancer. Last time I checked, males don’t have a cervix. Cervical cancer is life threatening. I think in males HPV causes genital warts and whatnot, but not cancer. So men don’t have as much a reason to get it. Protect your little girl.

I just got my second shot today… and my arm is incredibly weak and sore. I am normally fine with needles, don’t cringe or anything. The shot was painful some, but I am now running a low-grade fever and am quite dizzy/spacey and it’s only getting worse as time passes. Should this be reason for concern??

The first shot I got I got really hot, dizzy, and almost fainted, but I believe that is because I stood up immediately after and too fast after the shot. I was fine after a few minutes. Hopefully, this will pass.. but reading all these different experiences kinda frightens me; especially about the third shot.

My 12 year old daughter recieved her 2nd gardisil shot today. She does have an apprehension towards shots, but has never fainted. Today she fainted, and went into a siezure, when she started to come out of it, we sat her down where she passed out again and then she started having another siezure, where her muscles appeared to stiffen up,and she started grunting. This one lasted longer then the first. The nurse asked me if my daughter has ever had siezures before, I said no this is her first. They took her into another room to lie down for observation and to monitor her heart rate.

Ok, I feel pathetic for adding to my previous post and it looks like this forum isn’t near as busy as it used to be, but I’ll post anyway:

My arm is still sore, actually getting more sore, but I figure this is just because of the shot and my muscle. However, my nose is running like crazy and I’ve had severe diarrhea for the past 24 hours. Is this cause for concern?

Hey Emily .. I had a ton of problems with the shot too. Shots have never done anything like that to me. You need to go to an emergency room, I suggest very soon. I was told after my second shot that I was “allergic” because of my reactions and I shouldn’t get a third. Yet they put me through that pain and suffering twice?

I’ve just had the second shot of Gardasil, and I must say, it hurt a lot more than the first one. My arm still hurts, but the pain should go away soon I expect.

Fainting is a common side effect of all vaccines - the best cure I’ve found is sugar. Jelly beans and/or cordial (red is best) combined with lying down for a bit afterwards seems to prevent fainting etc.

I got my first shot of Gardasil in July of 2007.
FYI, I love needles and shots.
So, I got the shot, and a few seconds later I’m walking out
over to the secretary lady and I feel very hot and dizzy
and BAM! I fall STRAIGHT backwards and hit my head hard on the floor. I blacked out and my mother’s on the floor holding my hand while the nurses are there aiding me with water and a cold cloth on my head. This shot scares me
and I haven’t gone back for my second or third. I don’t know if I will.

I haven’t gotten the vaccination and I refuse to. I have spoken to doctors and pharmacists that are not involved in gynecology but are general practitioners. They all warned me against getting it. It was pushed through the FDA trials much quicker than it should have been because everyone was so excited by the prospect of a “cancer vaccine.” There was only 18 months of testing done on it, not enough to get an idea of any long-term side effects. When tested in rats, the vaccination had an effect on their reproductive organs and estrogen production. Out of all of the vaccinations I’ve had (the regular childhood ones, plus Hep B, Viral Meningitis, and Chicken Pox) none have had the myriad of nasty side effects that this one does. Doesn’t that tell you something?

I have not decided yet what to do for my daughters. If all the people with reactions could report them it may help to clear up some of the side effect issues. The US Department of Health and Human Services has established a Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) to accept all reports of suspected adverse events after the administration of any vaccine, including but not limited to the reporting of events required by the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. For information or a copy of the vaccine reporting form, call the VAERS toll-free number at 1-800-822-7967 or report on line to http://www.vaers.hhs.gov.

I’ve copied and pasted my post from the gardasil group and have started a diary kind of a time line of Stormy’s illnesses. I think it would be easer to hand a doctor the papers instead of explaining it. still got to go through all the emails that i sent to anybody that might mention Stormy’s illness and the date’s

my daughter had the first hpv shot
———————————————————————-
3/25/08

- she didn’t have any problems at
first and I didn’t put the two together until later .her side effects
started later. dizzy, fainting, headache most of the time, tingling in
arms legs now a constant pain in legs and ribs, she says a popping
feeling in her blood veins where her arms bend, neck pain, tired, her
eyes had pain and would flutter and look up other things to she would
keep getting one thing after another been to five ER’s all test was
negative.it will be three months before she can get into the children’s
hospital neurologist. She is constantly in pain. I’m so frustrated.
——————————————————————————-
3/25 08

she also had the meningococcal vaccine and the hpv at the same time
———————————————————————————-
3/25/08
its really hard because there isn’t a Dr. that will say there is a
problem with a vaccine.they try to say she is under stress??????? my
daughter doesn’t have stress, she looked at them like their idiots.
she has been spoiled by us and by her boyfriend and his family
to ,Disneyland skiing snowboarding archery hiking paint balling, she
was a happy fun loving active person and she still try’s to be, the
pain in her legs and ribs is constant she is still fainting its so
scary the headaches are really bad she has them all the time.
when we went to the children’s hospital ER and told the
receptionist what was going on and that we thought it was from the
Gardasil,AND THE Triage nurses looked at each shook their heads like
they already heard of this then proceeded to tell us about another
girl that has been going there for over a year that cant hold her
bladder anymore one said she has went downhill in the last year it
was sad she said, after having the Gardasil vaccine . they still
didn’t do anything for my daughter
————————————————————————–
3/27/08
Hey my name is Stormy,im 15
I got the shot about a month and a half ago
And im late for a
period do you still have all your cramping and eveything

————————————————————————————-
3/28/08

my daughter also stomach pains, headaches, fatigue lots of others. yes
she only received the first one,the pain in her legs started as
tingling feelings.

Stormy to the doctor yesterday because the pain
in her ribs was worse than usual, they gave her a toridal shot. and
wanted to give her a hep a vaccine my husband call me I said NO
aren’t we having enough problems with the vaccines they already gave
her.
————————————————

3/28/08
I know about frustration five ER’s some of them we been to 2 to 4
times. when the problems started she would scream in pain ( mommy
mommy, it hurts mommy, mommy it hurts make it stop mommy please make
it stop mommy mommy mommy) tears running down her cheeks one ER gave
her a shot for pain, the clinic we go to will give her the toridol
shot when she’s hurting more than the pain she has all the time now.
then the fainting it just happens and she falls so hard just drops
seven times in one day ,she doesn’t move anything for about two
minutes no matter what I do. on our second to last visit to an ER
before he even started I said I believe it’s a side effect from
Gardasil he said no that isn’t a side effect and smirked. I cried I
was so frustrated we had a few other words back and forth, I had
Stormy get ready and we left , we went outside the hospital we sat
down for a few minutes and she says to me ( momma I don’t blame you
for this,it isn’t your fault )I had to fight back the tears, she knew
how I felt even if I didn’t say it. so many people died from cancer
in our families and the doctor said it was safe. now she has a
constant pain in her legs that she has to deal with along with all
the rest of the pains and tingling that comes and goes she is resting
all the time napping. nobody listens.
sorry if I repeat myself on here, I cant believe there is finally a
place I can vent where somebody understands my frustration I wish
there wasn’t a place to vent because of the suffering your daughters
are going thru, but we needed to be able to talk with others like us ,

IT ISN’T STRESS what the hell is that like a generic response to
anything they cant find the answer to?? or don’t want to find the
answer??

—————————————————————-
3/30/08

I’m sorry if I scare you, I don’t mean to.
I’m not a doctor, not even close, but if you have anybody else to be
around you now might be a good idea. Stormy still has
headaches, after the eye pains started is when my daughters eye lids
started fluttering like and her eye balls would be looking up into
her head it happens every time she starts getting the eye pains
through out the day that it happens her eyes will go upwards. around
the same time is when the fainting started, fainting isn’t really the
word for it ( drop like a rock ) hitting hard when she hit the
floor.she knows she is going down but cant stop herself her body just
stops working for her. after Stormy is down she wont wake up for a
couple of minutes. scary. my advice to you would be to get two beanie
caps or something to cushion your head. I HOPE THIS DOES ‘NT HAPPEN
TO YOU . I WILL PRAY FOR YOU. I’m only letting you know so you will
be a little prepared if it does happen. try to stay away from
stairs. One ER did a cat scan on her head it came back normal.
Because of the pain in her legs two ER’s have done ultra
sound on her legs normal test results. Tingling in her arms and
strange sensations, they don’t say anything about it.
If your arms start to swell and or change color I
would go in at least show them to your doctor. I know how scary it is.

———————————————————————————————————-
4/7/08

Sorry for not being on here more often I also take care of my dad who
has many health problems including dementia .
I’ve been trying to put together a timeline to rule out or
investigate anything no matter how far fetched it seems. I have copies
of Stormy’s health records from her doctor and from all the ER visits.
All Stormy’s test were normal.

——————————————————
4/17/08
I’m so tired of the chronic stomach pain to and Stormy gets them
daily also. I don’t know what to do to relieve the pain. I cant
imagine what she is going through. her ribs hurting constantly is a
tuff one she cant get comfortable on either side and is so
frustrating, when she is trying to go to sleep sometimes she just
cries.
————————————————————————-
4/24/08

stormy fainted again yesterday Dad came in and woke me up ,he said she dropped hard, damn ,then last night she had more intense pain in her stomach. cant wait to find a good doctor.

—————————————————————————————————

4/25/08
Stormy passed out again last night and also the day before. afterward
when she was laying on the bed while we were talking she started having
pain in her eyes again a little fluttering and her eyes are going
upwards its hard to describe .I feel so frustrated I want someone to
help her but as many times as we been to the ER’s they don’t do
anything, even she knows it. I was up and getting ready to go she say’s(
no mom I will be alright.) headaches, stomachaches, pain in her legs
and ribs are daily… what to do ????????????
I keep searching for a doctor in our area while waiting for the
children’s hospital appointment.
——————————————————————————–
4/25/08

we live in California I’ve been looking for Osteopathic doctors close
by that will take her insurance.

She blinks a lot at the time it is happening and some very fast like
blinks ( fluttering ) her eyes will be looking up I can see her
eyes, she doesn’t even realize that her eyes are looking upward, she
feels pain.

——————————————————————————————————————————————-
4/28/08
she passed out again yesterday, she said that before she passed out she was petting our dog patches but calling her by shadows name saying ( what a good girl shadow) so there was some confusion here. when she starts coming round she is crying she said that her head hurts and it feels like she cant lift it off the floor she cant describe the exact feelings except that her head feels empty and heavy.
( shadow has been gone about a year )

4/28/08
Stormy passed out three times this evening. her legs are hurting a lot more tonight and her ribs were hurting more today so was her back.when she comes round she must not be able to yell, scream or talk loud ,the way she gets my attention is by slapping her hand on the floor ( their wood ) so i can hear it in my room. she cries a couple of minutes every time she comes through. the last time she passed out tonight i thought that she just fell asleep fast then realized when the familiar cry started.

—————————————————————————————-
5/2/08

I’m glad to hear that some of Mikaela’s symptoms are getting lesser. I was actually looking forward to Stormy’s appointment with the neurologist I just assumed that he would figure out what happened and be able to put a name to it and treat everything with one medication. sounds to me like he was more worried about her school than her medical problems. At least the imitrex will relieve her migraines.
Some of Stormy’s symptom’s got lessor for a week or so and then came back worse. she just spent two days in bed the pain in all the joints in her body was horrible we kept the heating pad on her, the arch in the bottom of her feet even hurt..yesterday she went the whole day without fainting thank God. the day before she fainted six times.

Im 20 and my first two shots were not that bad, aside form slight pain that vaccines usually leave me with afterwards.

However for the third shot, i had to go to a different doctor and this 3rd shot extremely stung as the needle went in and came out. Then thankfully the pain went away and I drove home fine.

But later that night and the following day after, I developed a sore swelling lump that spread to about the size of my hand. Then the lump started to feel really itchy as time progressed. My arm also felt really hot where the swelling was.

Two days later the swelling subsided a bit but the itchiness has remained. And now, today is the third day, and even though the lump is smaller still, it has continued to itch. Just a bit worried about the itchiness, cos ive never has this sort of reaction before…

The shame of it all is so often the powers that be kick out a prescription that truly has not gone thru the rigors of fine testing, to make sure the side effects and possible problems taking the vaccine or prescription don’t outweigh the fact of not having it at all.

Two girls in my area of the US took it and both (not related) got immediately crippled by the overwhelming pain in their bodies. One died within a week, when she had never been sick. The other one, the drs. now say very well won’t have to worry about ever becoming pregnant anyway, because one of the side effects of the Garisil is starting to twist and ruin her uterus and ovaries. Too the drs.say she is starting to have epileptic seizures, they think, due to the vaccine ingredients.

What a toss-up!

I will keep all of you and others in prayer.

I got my third dose of the Gardasil shot on New Year’s Eve. I was fine afterwards except for the terrible pain when the vaccine was injected. But, a few weeks later I started having “episodes” where I don’t know who I am or where I am. I have been tested for everything from brain tumors to panic attacks. We are not certain if this is being caused by the shot… but all of the dates do match up… Continue to keep your eyes open.

I have recieved all gardasil shots and I have to say that the response of fainting and weakness to the shots is completely dependent on the person; because I have never had any problems. But my sister just has absolute difficulty recieving shots and she fainted. It is a stress reaction that often doesnt occur while the shot is being administered or immediately after; but can occur even 15 minutes later if the patient has a weakness to thinking about needles and shots weakly.

I am 19 years old and finished the series of shots over a year ago. The only one that seemed to bother me was the first one. After being given the shot (Which did not hurt more than any other shot) I left the doctors room and waited in the lobby while my mom paid the bill. I remember feeling really hot and my face burning. I thought i was going to pass out for a moment so took a seat and pulled off my sweatshirt. After about 5 minutes however I seemed to be back to normal.
A month ago, (A year after the last shot) I had an abnormal pap test come back positive with HPV. I know that the Gardasil shot only protects against 4 strains of HPV, but am still shaken by the results of my pap. My doctor went on further to explain that the shot can take up to two years to make your body immune to the 4 HPV strains. I thought that this was interesting and that other people should know as well. Overall I still strongly recommend the Gardasil shot to all girls. If you feel diferently i suggest you and your children watch the movie “Kids”.

After being diagnosed with high risk HPV, my gyno recommended I get the Gardasil shots. I was aware of the injections but figured they were only for women who hadn’t had sex, yet. I had done some research before I even knew I had it. However, he said that perhaps it would strengthen my immune system against the hpv. Yeah right? I don’t have health insurance,so I have to pay cash for everything and each time I went it was $200+. I hate to think that he did it for his benefit not mine. Nevertheless, I don’t feel I can trust him and I refused to get the 3rd shot after more research.
The first shot I received was painful, but not a big deal. However, the second shot was quite painful and it was sore for several hours. I didn’t have any immediate symptoms like others, but I have had a lot of joint pain, muscle pain, abdominal pain and depression. I don’t know if the shots were the cause, but I’d like to know before my daughter is old enough to get it herself. As of now, I refuse to let my daughter receive the shots.

Hi! I’m 17 +, turning 18 in July and I received my first shot yesterday. It wasnt that bad, the same as any other shot. In fact, I received that HPV jab and another jab for meningitis, two jabs in one go! So relax, it isnt too much of a deal. Just get someone to distract you when the doctor jabs you, so that you dont “feel” it that much. And of course, dont stare at the needle, it would make you sick (at least for the weak-hearted, haha). The only side effects i noticed are numbness at jab area and sleepyness.. Apart from that, it’s totally harmless! Chillz! =P By the way, prevention is better than cure right? Lighten up!

My daughter has had 2 of the shots and I didn’t notice any difference after the first one w/the exception of her complaining w/leg pain that no over the counter pain killer would help. After the 2nd shot, she started having all kinds of problem: low bp, high heart rate, dizziness, fainting, hot/cold spells, confusion, cluster headaches, heart/chest pain, tingling/numbness in extremeties, episode w/her spastic colon, etc. I have continually questioned the shot as the cause for all of these things that are now “suddenly” wrong with her. She has always been very active, full of energy and relatively healthy. Most days she feels so bad that she cannot even get out of bed except to take more meds, eat what I force her to eat or go to the restroom.
————————————————-
We are now due for her 3rd shot and I do not want her to have it. I am afraid it will add even more symptoms to the ones that she is experiencing now. We have seen several drs who have given her different diagnosis that turned out to be wrong: orthostatic hypertension, reactive hypoglycemia and even had an eeg for micro seizures. The cardiologist that we finally took her to diagnosed her with Dysautonomia or POTS as it fits most of her symptoms. He has her on a beta blocker that is calming her heart down some and allowing her bp to come up w/in the lower end of normal but still not where it needs to be. The retaining the right amt of fluid in the body for adequate blood volume is still a big issue however. I would like for anyone who has been given this diagnosis after having received the shot to please contact me. I would like to compare notes. Thank you and I hope all of you who are experiencing your own set of side effects lots of luck……DO NOT GIVE UP!!

I only took one shot and I had no side effects. I’ve heard that the way it works is that when they inject you with the vaccine, it’s not actually the real virus but an imitation of it, so it won’t make you contract the actual virus like other vaccines do…

sorry if that doesn’t make a lot of sense, i’m tired right now.

I have read your posts about Gardasil and I just wanted to share my story with you.I also live in Philadelphia.I had gotten all 3 of the gardasil shots last year and immediately after the 3rd shot in November I got sick. The very next day I was extremely dizzy and just did not feel right at all.I automatically called the ob-gyn where I received the shot and asked her about the reaction I was having and of course she said that it was not related. Not very long after that I was having stomach problems followed by an unusual cold which I had a nose bleed for several days. And followed by that I had a constant pressure headache which I also feel in my face.I went to my family doctor and he thought maybe it was my sinuses and gave me medicine and antibiotics which did not help.He then gave me steroids which I had a very bad reaction to and ended up in the ER.I finally went to a ENT and found out that my sinuse were fine. After that the doctor said that I have anxiety and gave me meds for that which I did not take because I knew inside that this could not be anxiety.I then had a new symptom heart palpatations and went to the ER for that and told that I was having pvcs probably from anxiety and then I was really frustrated they were just guessing and giving me the easiest diagnosis.I had gotten numerous blood test, chest x-rays,cts of the brain and sinuse, mri of the brain and sinuses,x-ray of the spine and still after all that the only thing that came back was that a had mild scoliosis, tension headaches, anxiety, high cholesterol, and pvcs.None of that helped at all.It is almost one year later and I have not gotten any better or got any answers.I have been to a number of specialist and even changed my doctor and nothing helped.I gave up on all the meds I was given because none of then helped or they just made the symptoms worse. Now everybody thinks I am crazy and does not want to help me.They say its all in my head which I know different. After reading about all of the girls being effected by the shot I really think that’s where all my symptoms are coming from and I just want to be back to normal.I am only 19 and feel like I’m 50!Please reply.

to gabby,
No Drs. seem to want to help at all with this. We have been to them all.
I did take my daughter to an iridologist and she put her on some herbs to help her adrenal glands and thyroid to function better. She said to do a heavy metal detox after and try to get the toxins from the shot out of the body. She still has the killer migraines but not as often and has not had a seizure for some time since she is on the herbs. You may want to try that at least they know what caused it and will believe you. I pray you get better. You are not alone.

I am 22 and had my first shot two months ago. I have had pain and numbness in my left upper arm and shooting down into my elbow ever since. It ranges from dull to very painful. I expected some pain, similar to getting a tetanus shot, but the length of time this has persisted is ridiculous. After reading more about it and how effective it actually isn’t, I’m not going to be getting the other two shots and I’ve advised my mom against vaccinating my 10 year old sister.

My daughter age 14 had her first gardasil vaccination on April 13, 2008 and she is like night and day. She was an athlete, on the go all the time, rode horses at the fair, worked out three times a week. Since the shot she is having seizures, severe joint pain and weakness. Lung problems, heavy periods. irregular heartbeat, she is always cold, severe migraine headaches - - all these symptoms she never had before. She was always the healthy one in our family never getting sick or anything now she is always ill. No showing horse at the county fair this year - in fact no riding horses at all or working out or anything. Always afraid she will have a seizure or get to where she cannot breath. Nobody is going to tell me this is not from the shot. She got sick the same day as she got the shot. We thought it was just a virus going around. The seizures didn’t start until two monthes after. She only had the first shot. I will tell everyone not to get this shot–it will hurt your child.

My beautiful athletic 14 yr. old daughter got her first shot of gardasil on April 14, 2008 after much pressuring from the pediatrician and her life has changed forever. Since that day she has had much pain, joint pain, migraines, breathing problems and two months later started having seizures. We have been to numberous Drs. had lots of tests and still are going to a childrens hospital to a neurologist. My daughter usually shows her horse at the county fair but not this year she is too weak and sick to go–the first time since she was 9 yrs. old. I know in my heart that this vaccination caused my daughters illness. I thank God that she only had the first shot or she may have died. Anyone out there contemplating this shot or is getting pressured from their childrens Dr. to get the vaccination do not. It is very harmful. I only hope there are not more dire consequences when she is older. I hate myself for doing this to her. Read about what poisons are in the shot and the serious side effects — not what the stupid phamplet says they give you like redness at the injection site or “fainting” because they are afraid of the needle. How about death and seizures and all the horrible side effects. All Moms and Dads do not get this vaccination for your daughters or you will be feeling sad like I am .

I said frantically, rachel how does it feel she said ti hurts i knew she wouldn’t lie. It was my turn! the first one didn’t hurt so i was like, wow, the second one aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh. I always took shots but this was the worst the doctor said i had to come back for a boster whicch suprisingly didn’t hurt.

I find some of these comments ridiculous. I have had all three shots and not a single problem, not even pain in my arm the next day. I mean sure the shot hurts when your getting it and for the rest of that day, maybe even the next. But let’s be serious, what injection doesn’t give you that feeling, even fainting is pretty common for certain people when getting them. I think this shot is well worth it. Think about it in the long run, for you mothers posting comments, would you rather your daughter have a sore arm for a few months, or have to watch her to go through cancer treatments because you got scared from reading all these comments. Some people really just need to think of the future. I was given the choice to get this, I never felt any pressure from my doctor and almost all of my friends have had them. Our lives are all the same, just a little bit closer to health, and a little bit farther away from cancer.

I’ve had all three of my gardasil shots now. With the first two, I had no problems whatsoever. The only difference I noted between it and other shots I’ve had is that they hurt more going in.
I had my third one yesterday. In recovery, I found my arm was aching a lot more and continued to hurt for the rest of the day and today (but the pain gradually decreased).
It was today I started getting headaches and nausea, nearly throwing up at one point.
I don’t think the shot is unsafe, I really think it depends on each patient. I don’t know anyone personally who fainted, but everyone’s reactions seemed to differ.
I much prefer getting a needle and its side effects to cervical cancer, though.

i got my second shot this past saturday .
and i’m perfectly fine .

my arm was only sore a little the first time for a few hours , and the soreness lasted for two days for the second shot .

there’s a little tiny bump where the needle went in , but there’s no discomfort .
there’s a lump where my flu shot was injected too , so it’s probably fine considering i always get bumps (allergies ? i’m an allergy freakk)

but i didn’t faint or anything and i feel just dandyy —

I don’t see how all of these messages can be read.

I’m pretty sure what I’m going to say is accurate. I’m pretty sure that it was Nancy Syderman on NBC who said that there have been a few deaths from taking these HPV shots. At that time (several months ago)I think the number was 9. I don’t know what it is now.

Nine isn’t a big number but nobody wants their daughter to be one of them

I don’t hear much said about the ones who died. They continue to advertise the shots every where. They never mention that there is a possibility of death.
It’s not fair not to let people know the possible outcome before the shots are taken.

After receiving my 1st injection I was carrying my 5 month old to check out and felt really strange. Then I felt really sick like I was going to throw up and I almost passed out. I asked the receptionist if this was normal to feel this way she had me sit. The receptionist ran and got my dr. and they laid me down and gave me some water and carried my baby back to a room. This passed after about 5 min then i was fine. Mind you I have a CNA,and a CMA degree and Im in school for my RN and I have NEVER had a problem with any injection before. This really worried me so I got home and looked on here now its scares me to go back for another injection.

My daughter had all three injections. Three months after the injection we took my daughter to the emergency room with left arm numbness, chest pain and fainting. Nothing was found to be wrong. Over the past year she has complained off and on about left arm numbness and tingling. Now a year later she has not only the numbness and tingling but also has left arm and leg pain. She also has developed and uncontrollable twitching in her left arm and occasionally her left leg. I don’t know if this is from the shot but she will be seeing a neurologist this Thursday. Has anyone else experience a delayed reaction to the injection?

I received the shot two years ago before I started college. I have no problem with getting shots or blood but this shot was different. I never have minded the pain of shots but with this one I actually gasped and grabed the table because it hurt so bad. A few seconds after the first injection I passed out (for the first and only time in my life). It HURT like no other shot I have ever had for all three shots. I think the first shot might have reacted with the other two shots I had that day (Menengitis and Tetenus) and that is why I fainted because other than it being painful the other two doses did not affect me that much. I did not experience any delayed reations. My arm was sore for about three days.

For anyone considering the vaccine, please keep in mind that the number of negative comments here is not at all proportionate. People who have had bad reactions to the vaccine will look for a place to tell others. The majority of people, who have had no negative reaction, probably have no reason to look for a site like this.
I’m not trying to belittle the reactions some people have had, but the fact is that many people have no problem at all with this vaccine. Every medication comes with some level of risk; look up the percentages of people who have had complications with Gardasil and weigh the risks and benefits for yourself. I’ve already gotten my Gardasil vaccinations with NO problems - I didn’t even think they hurt more than the average shot.
I’d suggest having a talk with your doctor ahead of time. Make sure you/your daughter (whoever is receiving the vaccine) isn’t allergic to anything in the vaccine. Also, try to get the vaccine from a nurse you trust - some complications can just be caused by an inexperienced nurse administering the vaccine poorly. Your doctor should tell you (or the literature they have will tell you) that if you have a reaction to the first vaccine, you should NOT get the second or third. I’m really surprised at the number of people here who have had allergic reactions, but their doctor still gave them another vaccine.
I also find it really sad that parents are choosing not to let their daughters have this vaccine because of the ‘moral implications.’ No matter how great your parenting skills are, there is always a chance that your daughter will be exposed to HPV. Why not let your daughter have the vaccine, AND have a one-on-one discussion about HPV and safe sex?
Also, even if you have had several sexual partners and already have been exposed to one type of HPV, you should still consider the vaccine! Several different strains of HPV can cause cervical cancer.
I think that unless you have a negative reaction to the first vaccine, Gardasil is a good decision. Don’t underestimate cervical cancer. Be safe. Take care of yourselves.

My daughter has completed all 3 of her shots a little while ago. She said Gardisel is the most painful shot she has even gotten in her life. Well, she is only 14 years old.
She said it hurts enough when the needle goes into the skin but, when the vaccine plunges in she said that’s the worst part.
Well, the first shot my daughter received the nurse made her stand up. Then, after about 10 seconds after the needle was out she started getting dizzy and her vision was blurred. I was with her and she was still standing and she was wobbling all over the place to get to the chair to sit. Once she made it in the chair she fainted for about 15 seconds. Her face turned colors and all that jazz.
Thankfully, the 2nd and 3rd time she received them no problems were experienced. But, she said again, she hates that shot.

I recieved the first of 3 shots on Tuesday. I did not faint and was fine all the way home. Later on in the day i felt a little lightheaded so decided i should just rest. Now it is Friday, and I am still feeling lightheaded, and somewhat nauseated. I have been fighting myself to stay awake during the days. At times I get a little cramping in my stomach, and feels like my heart starts to race. I know this is not right, for i am reasonably a healthy person. I can not even imagine what the side effects would be with the last two. I will see my doctor tomorrow. I have also decided not to continue with the last two shots.

My daughter received all three shots.

She experienced her first migraine between the first two shots, which lasted 8 days.

A few months after the third shot she began blacking out daily (along with many other symptoms). Long story short, after being hospitalized for two days (to rule out life threatening illnesses) and having every test known to neurologists, cardiologists and internal doctors, she was diagnosed with POTS.

We have seen our healthy, athletic (cheerleader) daughter have her life dramatically altered. I truly believe this is from the Gardasil vaccination. I hate the fact that I was so easily swayed by our doctor to have this done. I also believe my God is much BIGGER than the mistakes we make and I’m trusting Him to restore health to my child.

How is she doing??? My granddaughter also took the vaccine and now is struggling with POTS. No one seems to know where this awful illness comes from — and I am very bothered to think it may have been the vaccine.

Is she better? It has been about three-four months since my granddaughter was diagnosed by a specialist at Mayo Clinic — taking Vitamin D, a beta blocker, salt pills, iron pills, running 30 minutes every day and drinking lots of water. This has helped her 80% but she is a long way from being okay. How old is your daughter???

Please reply if you can. Thanks and blessings.

My daughter had no problems with shots. I read the information about gardasil and was nervous after her first shot. She continued with the series. Yesterday she took the final shot with Hep A and Hep B. The doctor had her stand (about 10 minutes later) and she passed out. I was skeptical when I read all the posts months ago, but something is going on here. She is a touch cookie (18 yr old athlete).

Hey, i just wanted to also say that I recieved the 1st shot of the gardasil.. and stupid me, listened to the nurse and let her give it to me - without knowing much about it or anything. So, so injected it into my arm and said it would burn. It went in and it hurt SOOO bad. After the nurse left the room - i just wanted to die… i was holding my arm and almost in tears because of the amount of pain it caused. All of a sudden my breathing became shortened. I have NEVER had any problems with any shots or anything before in my life. And i do not have any allergies. I started to panic, because of the shortened breathing.. but i kinda told myself, i was being silly, nothing is wrong, just calm down and take deep breaths. Well, it only got worse and fast. I NEVER, EVER sweat.. and i was sweating profusly.. i actually felt a bead of sweat drip down my stomach. I was begining to be frightened, and wasn’t sure what to do - i sat on top of the table and all of a sudden started to loose my vision, black spots appeared. I knew this was not a normal thing.. and began to be afraid. I was kinda wobbly.. and almost fell off the table. I put my head in my hands and finally the doctor came in. She saw i looked distressed.. and asked if i was okay. I said no i am not.. something is very wrong, and as i was talking, my voice sounded really weird - i could barely hear. Still sweating, so much that the paper they put down on those tables, was stuck to my legs. The nurse gave me a drink of water and told me to lay down. So i did. I felt really messed up and dizzy. Exhausted and confused. She was fanning me with a brochure, to cool me off. They said i looked really pale. My hands started to loose feeling and my fingers went numb. My muscles got really tight and i just wanted to make everything just go away. Finally like ten minutes later i seemed to be doing better.. very close to fainting and all of these symptoms. The nurse asked if i ate that morning and i said no, i didnt have time, plus i am not an early morning eater. Basically the nurse tried to blame the symptoms on not eating. Are you kidding me??? I looked up online to see if anyone else had these problems and became very frusterated to find this happens to A LOT of girls. Never again will i take some random shot my nurse suggests just because my insurance will completely cover it. Very upsetting.

My daughter has been ill since the vaccines. Almost died twice (severe pneumonia and severe dehydration). She also was menopausal at age 19 - getting her period every two weeks. Sinus infections, migraines, hair loss, dizziness … you name it, she’s had it. Of course I didn’t put the pieces together right away … Thank God I did before she died from this horrible concoction. Did you know that it is a genetically modificed virus? They couldn’t grow it outside the body so it had to be genetically made? Even the originating doctor/scientist (Dr. Diane Harper)claims it is NOT safe but no one will listen to her. Too much greed involved!

My daughter is now on a special diet that is helping detox her. Why won’t the CDC/FDA look at his vaccine? It clearly has multiple times the side effects as menactra and others - they’re even published those reports! As one mother called it … we have entered the world of GARDAHELL … why has our medical community done this to our girls?

At the age of 15, our daughter had her first Gardasil shot. Everything was fine for until about a week later, she started having severe joint, muscle, and abdominal pains. She had trouble just walking. After many doctors and tests, she was eventually diagnosed with Lupus and Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (Autoimmune Diseases). These have no known cure and she may suffer with this the rest of her life. Prior to the Gardasil shot she was a healthy, vibrant, athletic young woman.

I had only 2 shots and will not go back for the 3rd. My first shot I did not experience anything…well, not realizing i was losing my hair. After the second shot, I woke up the next morning unable to see clearly. And I have 20/20 vision! I went to work and half of my sight was white. I got so nervous I had my boss drive me home. My mother called my OBGYN and all they could say its a coincidence. I have never had any health issues. I have never had anything wrong with me. After that I became sick for about 5-6 months. With stomach issues, and where I part my hair was extremely wide and thinning. After 2 years my hairs have somewhat grown back, but not the same. I still cry myself to sleep at times regretting that I trusted my Dr. This is just absolutley terrible. Our government is sh*t, and what our country does to us with all these drugs is evil. Merck, you should be sued for every last dime you have for the suffering of these poor woman and children who have to experience this! How do you people sleep at night?!!!

Just yesterday I got my first Gardasil shot, and was terrified because of what I had heard. The shot wasn’t bad at all, no worse than any shot I have been given before. I’ve heard that the pain increases with each shot of the Gardasil series, but I’m sure they won’t be that bad. Cervical cancer probably hurts more.

I’m 17, and I had my second shot last October. The first shot stung a little on the day I got it, and I didn’t think anything of it. The second round of Gardisil was much worse, though. I fainted immediately after recieving the injection, and I don’t even have an aversion to needles. The injection site stung for days afterward, as well. My shoulder hurts quite a bit and it is difficult to move my arm. However, I’m sure this pain is nothing compared to the pain or CERVICAL CANCER! Come on girls, moms! Get your children vaccinated! Passing out, vomiting, pain in the shoulder is well worth knowing that you are protected against cervical cancer.

It burned for about 3mins… and then I had to get blood taken from the other arm for something else. When I walked to the front desk I felt really woozy and loopy… I never done that with a little blood taking before… so it must of been the gardasil, I asked the lady at the desk If it was what the side effects were, if it made you woozy and out of it.. she said no. Im glad I wasnt driving… I went home to research it and it seems alot of people have this feeling after the shot… Im glad I got it though, and cant wait to finish the shots and get it over with… this time Im going to pay a little more attention to whats going on…

I may have suffered quite a bit from this vaccine… but I’m not against it. I strongly urge improvement and more responsibility though.

My school made me take the vaccine. I usually get a fever with vaccines, but that is a very common side effect.

First vaccine, I got a 41 degree fever. A bit higher than normal, but I thought “Hey, no biggie. Two more and protected!”.

Second. I fainted. Never have, but I did. Four times that day. Then at least once a day for the rest of the year. Stairs, on the bus, during tests… But that was the start of it. It mucked up general cycles of my body, my sleeping got more irregular (though it was not perfect from the start). Heart, lungs and such were laboured- I had tests for them.

Then my stomach went bad. I’ve had to have biopsies and such. But it’s not a disease,or an illness so I couldn’t get a medical certificate. It mucked up my studies. Heck, it ruined it. I still have the stomach thing, now for two years plus.

I also lost my lingual memory once from fainting. I lost most of my ability of my second language- which I speak with my mother everyday.

There was no way I could go with the last one of course- it’s a shame that I couldn’t go through with the last one and be protected from cervical cancer (a tragic illness that has stolen many lives)… but it was too dangerous for me. My lungs may not have taken it.

My mother is intent on stopping everyone she knows from having it. A bit different from my views (and slightly radical), but I guess if your child suddenly told you ‘I can’t understand what you’re saying’ when you were speaking as you always would, or if you had to take your child to the hospital three days a week you might act that way.

It’s a case to case thing. No one can know for sure that the gardasil vaccine is the one responsible, but the dates with everyone’s cases match too well. While I don’t want this potentially miraculous vaccine to be ditched, as I said before it REALLY needs to be improved upon.

You don’t know what will happen until you have the vaccine. The chances of getting really bad side effects are minor. It’s like a gamble, but with a lower percentage of losing– which means that there is always still the chance of losing of course (losing being getting life changing illnesses).
