Controversial HPV Vaccine for Girls Required in Virginia

In a controversial move, Governor Timothy M. Kaine said he would sign legislation requiring all sixth-grade girls to be vaccinated against HPV (Human Papillomavirus) using Merck’s Gardasil.

Virginia would become the second state to mandate the vaccine, the first being Texas. The requirement for Virginia sixth-grade girls would go into effect in 2009. Parents have the option to opt out after they review literature that will be provided by their child’s school and will have to sign a form.

How do you feel about this? Is this a sign of things to come? Two states have mandated Merck Gardasil so far!
